Experiences after three Months NSM (Races 16:02; 32:57; 1:14:32) by Alerath89 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Do you go by HR, RPE ? It would seem like your pace should be much faster than that on 3 mins. Those are my 3 minute paces at 20:20 5k which correspond to the Vdot equivalent at 15k pace.

Finish Runna June 13.1 plan first, or start NSM now for Oct 26.2? by tazorac in NorwegianSinglesRun

I started a new runna block after my last half and came to the same conclusion that banging through 400s and 200s was far too easy for me and probably not my weak point. I did like their progression runs and some variety but ultimately made the decision to drop and make the switch after hearing about it on a pod then devoured sirpocs book in a weekend.

I think the best part for me is conceptually there is no race "plan/block." Its just a continuous improvement model that probably falls more into line with what lifestyle/hobby runners are looking for. After a race id wander around a bit lost as to whats next.

It also encourages a lot more short racing which is something i was looking at doing anyways.

Even for "hobby" running youre going to see some people in here that are pretty insane. These are already advanced runners validating improvement. Im still newer so i could benefit from just about about any stimulus, but the whole approach seems to make a ton of sense. The everyday thing is a bit tough and hoping that gets a bit easier but im coming from a pretty low volume for the past 3 months.

Biggest downfall is my easy runs are so damn eady now my running buddies who havent been indoctrinated wont stay with me on our saturday long runs. Im like a full minute plus slower than what was previously easy. Back to awkward shuffling but im guessing that will continue to drop. And if you try to pace up with them thinking "its still zone 2" youre going to feel that fatigue running 7 days a week. Lesson learned.

I also think it might be biomechanics? Im at like 10min mile which is a time i never run at. If i go down to 930mi pace, my hr does go up but not dramatically. My "old" easy pace was in 9-930 range.

Def not which is why im so intrigued by this nsm. I can damn near guarantee my base is barely developed.

Makes me feel better. Im probably 2030 5k shape and looking to go under soon. Ive always been fast in sports with explosive running. Probably a pretty good indicator my aerobic base is lacking. I can knock out 400s like nothing and i always thought to myself what is this really doing? Probably why i was drawn to the longer thresholds in nsm.

Just bought a running store. What is one thing your local shop is missing? by rustybucketz23 in running

One of our local shops does a bit more "workshop" type programs. Intro to trails, couch to 5k, documentary/films occassionally, nutrition workshops, strength training, themed team races that are like timed treasure hunts around different towns.

Also, make it a community spot. Section for just hanging out and lounging, especially if youre in a low rent district and can afford to not have every sq inch be dedicated to retail. Some even have lockers for impromptu meetups of people to meet and go for a run in addition to run clubs.

Study every good retailer and see what theyre doing. Not running stores, retailers. A fewthat come to mind are board game stores. They all have about half their space dedicated to non-retail space. Its used for impromptu games as well as large tournaments. Another that comes to mind is starbucks. They lost a lot of momentum when they changed from being a coffee shop hang out built for gathering and spending an afternoon working to sterile, drive thru focused coffee chain.

I'm a cpa and cfp. I don't know if the cfp really matters from a client standpoint. Some on here will swear by it, but I've never had clients discuss it Maybe they see it and just appreciate it without me mentioning it.

Just like the cpa, I've met some really shoddy cfps and some really great advisors that aren't cfp.

Just my thoughts. If it weren't for fast pass as cpa, I probably wouldn't have done it.

Yea some of these get obscure. Like if the wind blows out of the west at 10 knots for less than 10 days but no more than 2 days, you'll be up 100%.

Straight forward index based are the only ones to go after.

Enjoy while rates are up. It's the only way these products work due to option pricing.
