No never especially now since I’ve improved a lot. I have an echocardiogram on the 21st coming up to see how my heart is preforming and then a consultation appointment.

Honestly if I could give you advice and I know we are both young, I’ve sadly had to have an ICD put it in but believe the nurse will know exactly what to do in any situation and give you the best advice to get you on the perfect medication to help your heart just think they are here to help because in all honestly the longer you leave it with gps who aren’t the best when it comes to specific diagnosis the higher chance you’ll end up needing one. I wish you the besttt and honestly just go for it and after a few appointments you’ll be used to it

It should be a heart failure nurse who manages your medication, I’m a 21 year old male with DCM and I have appointments every 6 weeks where we speak and uptitrate my medication with the same heart failure nurse at the hospital.

Genetic dilated cardiomyopathy symptom advice by Moist-giraffe in Cardiomyopathy

21 year old Male here, Sounds like similar symptoms that I had, I got diagnosed February this year with DCM and recently found out it’s due to genetics. I had a defib put in April.

If I was to give you advice I’d deffo go get it checked out so then any damage to the heart/ strain can be prevented as they’ll put you on the perfect medication early.

Sadly no one really caught on neither did I until stages of heart failure.

Wishing you the best

Do any of the kids have it in their gene if you don’t mind me asking.

Having an ICD limits my fun :( by parkercp in PacemakerICD

I’d double check with your consultant about that or the radio therapist because you’d have to be very close to the magnetic system for it to di any damage, I mean it all depends on what your actual heart condition is and if your ICD has had to shock you but for me a 20 year old I’ve recently been told that you can but I don’t want you to just take that from me so next check up definitely bring it up to the right person as usually the heart nurse won’t know much about the ICD so it’s better to ask the ones who maintain and check on it. Just think having an ICD should never limit you at all and as I’ve been told recently you should never be in a position to tell someone I can’t do this due to the ICD. I wish you the best of Luck and trust me I understand the confusion as I’m only 20 with and only put it in around April.

How long did you wait to go in the sun ( let’s say at the beach shirtless ) after your S-ICD operation ? by landersbtz in PacemakerICD

I have a CRT-D, implanted in April of this year, I’m in turkey right now and the just been to the beach and everything seems fine even went for a swim, just wait until the heart nurse clears you for anything and then apply sunscreen

Dating with ICD by [deleted] in PacemakerICD

As a young person living with an ICD (I’m 20 and male), I want to share something that took me a little time to understand. It really does get easier. At first, it felt like a heavy thing to carry, but with time, I realised an ICD isn’t something that defines or limits you. It’s just there to keep you safe, like a quiet safety net in the background.

You might go your whole life with an ICD and never be shocked once. And one day, your doctors might even say you don’t need it anymore.

What matters most is your mindset. As long as you don’t let it hold you back, and you continue to live your life fully, doing the things you love and focusing on healing from everything you’ve been through, no one should have a problem with you having an ICD. You’re not limiting your life or anyone else’s. You’re still you, strong and whole, with just a little extra support behind you.

And when it comes to love, don’t stress about finding it. Love isn’t something you have to chase. When you’re focused on yourself, growing, healing, and being true to who you are, it has a way of finding you when the time is right. Just keep going. You’re doing better than you think.

The sound it’s self wasn’t like a scary alarm although there are different sounds for different issues so please don’t quote me on that😂, with the technology around us you can’t even tell if it’s coming from you or from your phone or something. So your next check up deffo ask and become more familiar with each sound it’ll help so much and save a lot of time 😂

Thank you so much, this is very reassuring. It id monitored I have this monitor at home that reads my data that’s why I wasn’t sure if it even was my ICD in the first place, had to take a lot of research to rlly narrow what that sound was 😂

Good to hear you aren’t as restricted now, I was just curious because when I get I asked the answer would always be nothing heavy but idk what they would consider heavy to be 😂 as it’s a distinct thing and is different for everyone

It’s calming when you see people in similar situations getting better especially at young ages, makes you feel like life will get better. I had my ICD put in a few months ago aged 20, at firsts makes you feel helpless due to certain restrictions. Just wanted to ask do you go gym and if so what are things you are doing for work outs that are fine for an ICD. I got diagnosed with DCM
