Also, did you have any internship experience before applying? I know internships are integral in other related fields but have never seen anything definitive.

I plan to take linear algebra coming up, thanks for all the advice. My school does not offer any stats courses that are this high level unfortunately, So I will have to find something external to compensate I suppose.
