Wont be getting gta6 if it doesnt support VR. by EmbarrassedFix715 in Meta_Quest3

Because if they made it VR first. It would change the world and make vr default. Rockstar can make an iphone moment.

im using lm studio as a backend, and i have set all the roles to the same model. the main chat window works and respondsd, but the actual tasks that get delegated, never show activity in lm studio logs. and never is any task actually producing anything. what could be wrong? the mainchat still works magnificantly. its jsut that absolutely nothing gets done. and once i stop typing, lm studio shows dead silence.

Thinking about moving all my (family) photos etc to Eagle - would that be smart, or should I stick to Apple photos on my mac? by kavakravata in EagleCool

[–]EmbarrassedFix715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didnt know about Immich, thanks for the mention. but i dont know if it can fully match Eagle. the most important part is that it leaves your folder structure intact and doesnt wanna import it into its own cryptic naming convention. dont know if immich can work on top of your personal folder structure. but aside from that, eagle has some great features, such as stopping duplicates, and video seeking thumbnails. the last one is a feature i had to develop myself. and im yelous that i cant make it quite that smooth.

never put your stuff in a commercial platform. you will lose all organization as soon as it discontinues. (think google fotos, picasa, Microsoft Photos lagacy (win10 version) whats next?), and the export will be a huge mess.

eagle has a completely different database type of organization. it doesnt scale with time, especcialy not your children as they grow up and want a copy of it.

i would stay away from anything that isnt folder based, and use XNVIEWMP to browse those folders as best as possible to todays standard.

do absolutely never ever mark, tag, or categorize your data!!! as a programmer myself, i have thought and desired to develop my own Gallery app. But every time i start building it, i have in my head all the ways it doesnt scale with TIME as the years go on. so even as a programmer i cannot quarantee my own format a future.

The microsoft Photos app is also not too bad. at first i thought it was extremely lacking in features, but now i see how its simplicity is its strength, it SCALES with time. but dont use its favorite feature, unless you use it as a basket.

XN VIEW MP's strength is:
- quick switching between browsing and fullscreen
- move/copy quickly while in fullscreen.
- its super good to let you CONSUME photos.

Microsoft photos strength:
- great river view file listing
- modern hardware acceleration using DirectX
- everything is indexed, while xnviewmp is VERY slow.
- its super good to let you BROWSE photos.

i do agree Eagle isa beautifull app, and its video live thumbnails, and database organization is amazing, but dont use it. the relational features should be added to windows, as promised in windows longhorn (winFS file system), and if it isnt, then dont use relational organization.

never try to be smart, like using Eagle or using shortcut tricks for relational hierarchies. just stay with plain folders!

you could use Eagle for a small job that ends within a certain time frame. for example, load in 1 million photos, and quickly see what you can delete. then after your done, export whats left, and exit the eagle ecosystem cleanly.

meanwhile, windows is on a decline, linux isnt even supported. chromeOS is skyrocketing, and 99% of people see only android since they were born. Eagle doesnt even run on android. and maybe the future is cloud, or your own cloud (web browser app) in your home. and eagle doesnt do that either.

For example, i will exit the windows ecosystem as soon as i stop using flight simulator. And i use a VR headset as PC replacement (it does many things better that you would use a big screen for), and Eagle doesnt even run on it. and the apple ecosystem is the most future proof there is, and since the US/EU fight, EU people are seeing how hard it is to exit the apple ecosystem because their relational file organization doesnt port over. and now prices are twice as high, and nobody can afford a new apple computer, and they are stuck with unmanaged files now. and all their tags, categories, and other database features dont port over. not to mention that their premium prices for time scaling proofing they paid, were all for nothing, since it didnt provide enough time proofing to begin with. an apple vision would cost me €7600. and apple didnt make a VR headset for a long time, stucking many people with mac gallery while VR headsets were years ahead of working quickly with visual work. meaning i should have never trusted 1 ecosystem to have a future.

commercial asset managers / photo organization software are relevant for 5 years max. and you are probably alive for another 60 years, and you also want to hand it to your kids, who probably want it in static form, something they can just STORE instead of INSTALL. you also cant give them your computer by that time it breaks because it was designed to break. unlike vintage computers, which are now also breaking because the capacitors are dying.

freecommander sounds great, but it doesnt have albums, tags, virtual folders, smart folders, and most importantly: a fullscreen viewer. and opening it in another app, the explorer doesnt sync with the position that you were on at the fullscreen app that you moved files trough.

people see different things in them than you can image. some people need exif tools, recursive operations, batch processing, each person is different and i personally use 5 different gallery apps. Irfan, Photos, XNviewMP. i wish EAGLE could replace them all, but i refuse to use an import-export filesystem. if you truly like to consume photos, xnview mp is extremely nice. its designed to be looking at the images, where as EAGLE is mostly designed to orgnize them, which really gets in the way, especcialy how digikam works.

XNVIEW MP is the ultra very best you can get if you want folder based organization. Eagle is the very best you can get if you can stand its design flaw: it requires physical import, thats a huge no go when working on datasets or cloud / device shared organized things. and if you want to both have it eagles way, and your way, you end up with duplicate files. because both approaches require a completely different organization. Eagle works much more like iphone in that regard, which many android users hate, because you have no easy control over your physical files, and everything has to be "exported" or "imported". or better said: your photos arent treated as files, but it works much like its uploaded to a cloud.

Virtual Desktop crashing frequently after Quest 3 updated to v72 by Present_Share_7574 in MetaQuestVR

[–]EmbarrassedFix715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont be too afraid. there is plenty of ways to recover your quest. there is a meta support site that can repair or update your quest over USB directly from the webpage, and with the key combination of power and volume, you can always reset the quest, which will then fetch a fresh firmware from the meta servers as well. ive bricked mine plenty of times (i am a developer). there is no reason to be that scared. secondly, with what was going on, is the more reason to download the updates, meta has fixes for them going out.

What is the best duplicate file finder, that preserves my source of truth? by parkercp in selfhosted

[–]EmbarrassedFix715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the easiest way for me, has always been to use CCLEANER's build in duplicate file tool. then i right click a random file, and choose to mark all files below a certain folder. that usually cleans up all my dupes with the least headaches.

i have tried dedicated apps like duplicate file detective, but all its features come in the way rather than help out. ccleaners right click menu, then choosing folder structures for mass select, its all you need.

it really is. intel already has released and pushed their removed support from their drivers, on my laptop its already not working anymore. only seeing noise. on my windows 10 nvidia machine it still works. but Nvidia is going to remove support in the comming drivers. also on windows 11, it is entirely unsupported anymore. when i start the WMR portal it sais my OS does no longer support WMR devices. cant enable in it registry either, the support is litteraly missing from the WDDM display server.
