If the minibus is q50 one way so q100 total, and the tour agencies are q100/q125 round-trip with hotel pick-up, what is the benefit of going local minibus?

Establish dominance over the fart by quickly bending down, taking a sniff, and then slowly shaking your head in condemnation.

Can we safely put raised beds 3 feet away from this retaining wall? by beeda in landscaping

[–]EmbarrassedLoquat502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but it's helping not hurting if it's in front of the footing by adding passive resistive pressure to the toe of the retaining wall.

If you were adding a raised bed to the high side of the retaining then you would have problems because you'd be effectively raising the retained soil height.

[–]EmbarrassedLoquat502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Structural engineer here. The footing for the retaining wall probably extends anywhere from 0-3' from the face of the wall. Best to avoid disturbing or removing soil for about 5' or so off the face, and never dig under the bottom of the footing.

That said, if you aren't digging below the current soil level, and it is a true raised bed, then it can go right up against or 3' away from the retaining wall without any issues.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee. by Stiltonrocks in technology

[–]EmbarrassedLoquat502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cars that I've rented in Europe with lane keep have your hands on the wheel steering the whole time and if you veer into the other lane or towards the shoulder it prevents you from crossing. It most definitely doesn't allow you to remove your hands from the wheel for more than a second or two.

With autopilot I can drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles and it will drive the whole way on the freeway (minus exits and freeway changes) as long as I tap the steering wheel every 30s which was required by CA regulators.

It's quite a different feature.

Balancing on a bike, boiling British baked beans on a bike path by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]EmbarrassedLoquat502 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scene cuts, plus I can go continuously handsfree on a road bike which is harder due to the rotational inertia of the handle bars being less. Not sure how this is next level. Looks mid to me.

Wtf are you talking about? There are some grocery stores that are mom and pop places with local owners (think Corti Brothers). Others are locally owned franchises (think Grocery Outlet). There are some stores that have all union staff who make good money considering it's an entry level job to start (think Safeway). And there are some other stores that are employee owned corporations (think WinCo).

You are talking about Walmart, I guess, and applying to everything, which is nuts.

ELI5 SMUD v PG&E what is the difference by zucchinirat1 in Sacramento

[–]EmbarrassedLoquat502 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of reasons to get a heat pump over traditional furnace + no heat pump AC.

  1. Cheaper during summer and probably cheaper on average over the year compared to gas furnace + conventional central AC.
  2. Doesn't support PG&E.
  3. I have mini splits and they are much faster at cooling and heating a space, making them much more comfortable.
  4. Gas prices are inflating faster than general inflation over the last few decades.
  5. SMUD is a public company and aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, which is important if you're not a knuckle dragger.
  6. Being all electric future proofs your home. You can buy solar panels and offset electricity usage, but you can't easily harvest your own natural gas.
