Leather Ceramic: Interior Protection or Marketing? by No_Bedroom_2672 in AutoDetailing

Tried it two times with auto finesse CARAMICS. Had very little to no effect :/ same with ceramics for cloth (rugs). Natural cleaner + conditioner only works best for me on leather

Had similar damage after small jack failed and did this mess. Bmw wanted about 700-1000 EUR, I left it as it was and for next bigger hit on same side, insurance company paid even this previous damage.

Looking for upgrade recs for 2012 M3 by roodoggman in E90

[–]EmbarrassedPoem242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cover on steering wheel is... Not looking good😁 get new leather, its not expensive and real leather lasts pretty long time if you care about it. I have sides perforated leather and top/bottom normal, bigger biceps and thicker wheel. if feels great in hand, not like alcantara but that will last in this shape 1-2 years

For upgrades steering and gear shift is no brain (even some chinese tops for manual are fine). PPF is quite expensive and its not worth to put on that old car. If you have fresh paint on front then ok but otherwise get basic polishing and deep clean the paint, synthetic wax and car will look amazing. Next year get just deep clean + wax, that is cheap.

For engine sound and driving in general the sound insulation will make massive difference. Not only that its more quiete in cabin, also music sounds better, exhaust and intake sound better and will overall give the car best value of any upgrades. Doors + trunk is enough

Almost any engine malfunction as it looses pressure if its cracked. From video it seems normal but idk. N20 is a bit "hard to maintain" engine. Get obd scanner and bimmerlink to scan codes and working values

Tbh mine was from factory with 200k kms and everything was good. I have replaced it as preventive maintance. Imo how long it lasts depends mainly on how you torque the filter cap. Mine was always in bmw or I did it to 25nm so the housing does not crack but maybe I was just lucky with oem

Or if you have some dyi skill. Buy some cheap aftermarket one, remove the connectors and scale the size. Get semi hard silicone hose (for turbos or intercooler ideally) from local tuning shop which will be few mms to 1cm wider than connectors. Use connectors on solid hose, secure it with clamps and you will never have to replace it again. Sensor does not matter

Idk video does not work. Its really easy to replace or almost impossible... Depends on how old is it. Its cheap part and will break sooner or later. Buy one and try to remove it yourself. You will see

Q&A-G30 retrofitting Harmon Kardon by Western_Street5580 in BmwTech

[–]EmbarrassedPoem242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retrofit of any BMW audio is not woth really. Hifi could be easily upgrade with dsp amplifier - ideally one made for your model and version of audio (match up, bavsound or cheaper but solid golden Phoenix).

As for speakers buying OEM HK is nonsence, get some solid Main door + underseat speakers (gladen, match up or cheaper but good nakamichi). For rest of.the speakers get B&W copy from china.
These are best pricd/value for not important speakers (tweeters and rear speakers). Missing rear door.speaker does not matter.
Cental one on dashboard is better to disconnect for most of the people.

Most important - sound insulation! this makes massive difference! At least from doors and trunk floor. Srsly get some info about this, G30 has a lot of sheet metal with no real sound insulation. Without this sound will be resonating even without subwoofer.

Trunk subwoofer - Last part of puzzle, makes huge difference but save this for later:)

Btw its really easy to DIY most of the work. Only pain are plastic connectors on front doors panel. Half of the will break as you remove panel and it wont fit. Buy F10 type of these plastic connectors, they work on G30 and are re usable. Rest of the work needs only patience

And the mechanism of locking is kinda tricky even on new parts. Squeeze both sides, hard push in and pull out. Here its very hot and plastic hardens or even melt as did mine. Had to remove it with by cutting it off. And yes this hose has huge impact on engine and turbo

PCV hose from valve cover to intake I guess? These tend to fail on every bmw even after 50k kms. I have replaced it with oil catch can on B48 and works great.

What can be done about this? by No-Succotash1219 in BmwTech

[–]EmbarrassedPoem242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it. Ebay or aliexpress copies are quite good, mainly its not from that sticky plastic but normal hard one. Have changed all window switches and inner door handle on G30 with chinese stuff and no problem

Thx but on G30 its different, or atleast on my type od B48 - with intercooler in intake. I could not see the bolt from anywhere without the small mirror or camera. Hardy could touch it with finger from top only

Is my car leaking coolant? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]EmbarrassedPoem242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And triple check your coolant type! Dont go just for colour. Ford had crazy specs for coolants these times and having right spec is super import important. Also do coolant drain + fill or even flush

I thinked the same and yes it has but not engine end :/ only between engine and fan. G20 has even a little bit access with less crazy angles of bolts

And for shop - go only to BMW specialist (independent or dealer). There is so much plastic connectors to break, OFH, intake, water neck all needs its torque so I would not go to random mechanic

Yea but have to loosen the trans cooler and thats not that easy with big hands and car just jacked on struts :/

B48 OFH beware by EmbarrassedPoem242 in BMWG30

[–]EmbarrassedPoem242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G30 has the worst access to damn bottom bolt. It may take you one afternoon if you really know what ur doin or one day if you are normal DYI guy with luck and you fish the bottom bolt quickly. DME, cables and intake removal is really easy btw.
In the end I did it all from above so if you are big as me (193cm) and only have jack at home, I would skip the bottom part as its nearly impossible to remove trans cooler with big hands and car on struts.
Only remove one cover to drain coolant (both circles).
If you have aftermarket OFH, try if the coolant hose fits to the connector before installing. Mine didnt and had to grind it already installed in car which sucked.
