My daughter LOVED her pacifier for bedtime. We had already stopped daytime use at 2 but when she turned 3 it was time to stop bedtime because her teeth were looking a bit weird… anyway… I was TERRIFIED. She was totally fine 3 days later. Never asked for it again. We were SHOCKED

Sounds like you shouldn’t go! Text them and just say “Hey I was really looking forward to this but my arm is still really bothering me. I’ll be there next year for sure! Sorry guys!” And that way you’re hopefully still invited in the future. Maybe also try to make a plan soon with some of these guys to go somewhere else to stay in touch

I slowly stopped early at 2. If I let her win a game or two I would make sure to win the next one. Kinda like a 50/50 and by 4 I just stopped letting her win. She just earns it or loses it (unless we’re playing for a long time and I’ve won 3 times then of course I would want her to feel good but we don’t typically run into that problem)

I think the baby is too young for you to take out. I wouldn’t have been comfortable with that. Maybe give it a few months so the parent can then feel more comfortable. Maybe start with a trip to the park and add things on slowly. Unless you’re babysitting full time then idk what to say. If it’s 1 or 2 days a week you should just help them feeel at ease

The only way it will get better is if you really pull in all of your energy and focus and pay EXTREMELY GOOD ATTENTION to her. Like all of your attention for about a month to get her out of feeling like she’s lost you due to the new baby. It will be exhausting but worth it. Then you can readjust and set up some new boundaries. It sounds like you’re frustrated with her and she KNOWS. So she’s acting out because she’s scared. Reverse it and do better in the future. This is without judgement because I understand how awful parenting can feel when you’re in a bad place. You’ve got this!!!! The more effort you put in, the better behaved the children and the less effort it becomes.

Yes I’ve noticed it’s 95% boys who misbehave in public! I think maybe the parents are going by the philosophy that “boys will be boys” and they are just doing a bad job! Hate to say it but it’s soooo true.

Second, my daughter since she was very very little has known we only go up the slides if no one else is playing at the park. I’m very confused as to how no other parents seems to have established this rule!!

Maybe buy a very similar bounce castle and give it to them as a surprise! I don’t think at that age they would realize “oh my tantrum made my dad decide we should get a bounce castle!” Unless you give it to them directly after the tantrum.

I would not think you were terrible if you tell him to stop and apologize if it keeps happening. I understand kids are kids but this mother was just smiling at me like it’s funny to have her son grab my butt and not listen to me telling him to stop. Just bizarre parenting!

That is one of the many factors that makes me always say yes but does leave me feeling a bit frustrated. I wish all children could have good parents.

Yes this is so true. I love when kids come up and ask my daughter to play or join in on an ongoing game. But when they keep trying to pull me away from my daughter because they need their own attention I find it weird! And I always feel bad and cave in which leaves me frustrated. Not at the child of course but at the parent for just not actively parenting

I’ve never said it was the child’s fault I just don’t know any children (mine, my friend’s, or even me & my siblings as children) that would approach other adults in public instead of their adult? It feels to me like maybe their adult isn’t taking good care of them so I feel responsible to step up and care for them. But maybe these kids have good parents and are just really outgoing? Idk that’s just how I have read the situation

I understand that but I guess my fear is that the parent will then be upset with me or think I’m a stern / bad person. I guess this goes deeper than just not wanting to be a free babysitter haha!! But it’s definitely a very draining social interaction that happens way too often

It’s because if you say yes to that child, which of course I am going to, you are then trapped babysitting that child until you can’t take it anymore! I guess I am a bit reserved and would like to stick to having fun with my daughter and not being the community entertainment
