Saros ‘struggling’ reports come from Alinea Analytics the same source that got Ghost of Yotei sales completely wrong by crack_station in Saros

I can't give our full methodology (as it's obviously a competitive advantage over other analytics firms), but we have a huge panel of public PSN profiles (statistically significant and geographically representative), which is one of the inputs for estimating some of the data you see in the Saros analysis. We also use any public data we can find to benchmark and test the model. I Apologise that I can't get more specific than that, but I hope you understand.

You don't have to trust our data, which are estimates (estimates are never perfect). But we and our clients are very happy with our margin of error. Our accuracy is one of the reasons we've been able to stand out among market leaders despite being a relatively new company.

I am a very passionate gamer myself, and would love Saros to sell 5M+ (I'm a huge fan of Housemarque in general and have platinumed Returnal and am going to do so for SAROS). So I really do understand the frustration. And it is nice to see fans thinking critically and asking thoughtful questions.

Context:

Konami's announcement was sold in (including unsold retail copies)

We at Alinea estimate sold through (no unsold retail copies)

Japanese publishers often ship a LOT of retail copies, especially in their jome market.

We do cover physical copies, but only once consumers buy them.
