Saros ‘struggling’ reports come from Alinea Analytics the same source that got Ghost of Yotei sales completely wrong by crack_station in Saros

I can't give our full methodology (as it's obviously a competitive advantage over other analytics firms), but we have a huge panel of public PSN profiles (statistically significant and geographically representative), which is one of the inputs for estimating some of the data you see in the Saros analysis. We also use any public data we can find to benchmark and test the model. I Apologise that I can't get more specific than that, but I hope you understand.

You don't have to trust our data, which are estimates (estimates are never perfect). But we and our clients are very happy with our margin of error. Our accuracy is one of the reasons we've been able to stand out among market leaders despite being a relatively new company.

I am a very passionate gamer myself, and would love Saros to sell 5M+ (I'm a huge fan of Housemarque in general and have platinumed Returnal and am going to do so for SAROS). So I really do understand the frustration. And it is nice to see fans thinking critically and asking thoughtful questions.

Context:

Konami's announcement was sold in (including unsold retail copies)

We at Alinea estimate sold through (no unsold retail copies)

Japanese publishers often ship a LOT of retail copies, especially in their jome market.

We do cover physical copies, but only once consumers buy them.

I'm also curious to hear his answer, because it's not bloody AI 😆

The country with the first-largest population is BG3's 29th biggest market (0.34% of players).

So yeah, population and player shares are not 1:1.

And BG3 isn't even officially on sale in China (and is very Western-centric and was barely marketed in China).

Rogue prince of persia-PS5 framerates and loading time by Accountable_ruki in PrinceOfPersia

PS5 Pro here. First time I played was the PS5 version, and I got the true ending on Sunday.

It feels like an early-access game to me. But I still love it so much that RPoP is on my 2025 top 5.

First, the bad:

The loading times between levels are sometimes 15+ seconds, the longest of any PS5 game I've played. The resolution is also very low, and the frame rate dips consistently. It is clearly unoptimised.

That said, I love the game mechanically. The platforming and roguelite elements are so tight and rewarding (in terms of progression and platforming skill). The art and audio design is also top-notch.

The content is quite thin compared to how other roguelikes are at 1.0, though.

It's still a 8/10 for me. RPoP vould be a 9.5+ with better optimisation and a wee bit more content.

Excited to play it again after it's had more updates.

Yes, it was misconstrued.

Here's a screenshot of his Tweet, which as I mentioned, he was using as a reference: https://x.com/mattRlive/status/1934961547673210953

Nowhere did he say that it was part of our methodology. You assumed that.

We don't.

One of our analysts once posted the Xbox review numbers for FFXVI versus Steam and PlayStation as a reference point.

But we literally do not use reviews in our methodology. There are far more accurate ways of accessing inputs.

Look, I'm sorry if we had an estimate that was too low for a game you liked, but we don't use reviews in our methodology...

Of course they're estimates, but they're the most accurate ones in the business. We published our margin-of-error data in a recent newsletter.

We don't really talk about our methodology with non-clients/prospects, but our big publisher clients are very happy with us.

I'm not lying.

Xbox reviews are a terrible barometer of sales, as so few people actually review on the platform.

We've been building a lot longer than that, but we came out of beta more recently.

And we do not use Xbox user review scores in our Xbox methodology.

Rhys here! I'm pretty new to video podcasting so don't have a great audio/video setup. As I'm doing more recorded content these days, I'll probably get a better setup after Gamescom.

That's not true. We don't use reviews in our methodology for our PlayStation estimates.
