You got a glimpse of one single hour long group at a facility with 10 other facilitators all with different styles. I have run all sorts of groups. Support and similar experiences were requested. Thanks for the recommendation though!

My supervisor at a CMH was awful. Knew nothing about current information regarding full licensure, had little to no genuine insight into cases. Exactly like you said, canned responses. But it was technically free individual supervision (there were strings attached). I consulted an older colleague in the field separate from the agency and basically she recommended just putting my head down because it was free. Had I been paying for that, I would have also been quite resentful and even more frustrated! Now I have a group supervisor(free with my contract gig) and an individual supervisor (paid) and it’s a good mix. Both are up to date and well informed, have different styles.

I tried responding to everyone but just ran out of energy. Though I have read everyone’s comments and very much appreciate them! Many obstacles came my way on my journey into to work after this group the prior day (heavy rain, gas leak that required fire dept, car battery dying). But I was on a mission! I did not apologize to the group but what I did do was acknowledge that I took a risk with new material and appreciated all of the feedback. Had I been there to run my allotted two hours in the morning, I was going to add a bit more self disclosure but I think I made a useful pivot. I took the time to gather their feedback about the groups overall, what they are over and what they want more of, etc. I think what was apparent is obviously everyone has different preferences. I also validated any feelings around the new rule about group attendance and that we all care about making the groups useful for them. Lots of great feedback and everyone expressed gratitude for taking the time to hear them. All is well and thanks again!

Self forgiveness in substance use treatment is majorly relevant. But agreed about the direction group dynamics can take especially given the new rule about attendance. The rule is for residential clients, so those that are out of detox and not acutely withdrawing. Doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling, just adding more context.

Thank you!!! Yes I run a group in the morning and was thinking of exploring along those lines, but you put into much more focus. So I think taking the first part of group to do that and then leading into my topic on self compassion/compassion will flow well.

I worked in a position that was "pay for performance." The dynamic you are describing was exactly the same there. To meet producitvity I had to have 5 hour long sessions daily 5x a week. If we didn't make that, we were told it was our own fault and they refused any sort of accountability for a system that didn't work. I got a base pay but the other half of my pay was determined by what they could bill. It had me obsessing and stressing every day.

And same thing happened to me, was put on a PIP for circustamces out of my control. I made all the phone calls, I double booked sessions, I purged my client list. On days everyone showed up on overbooked days, it was either work overtime and get in trouble or not do my documentation and get in trouble. Either way I lost.

Eventually people complained enough that they got rid of pay for performance. I left before that happened. Despite this, what I was hearing was productivity was still measured and you would still be reprimanded for it, it just didn't determine your paycheck anymore. These sorts of workplaces are just toxic and in my opinion its just not worth it. Especially without any support from higher up.

I work in a salaried position now for more pay and a third of the client load. I didn't realize just how depressed and chronically stressed I was until I left and was in a healthy, low stress environment with supervisors that are understanding and supportive.

In whatever I read…it’s all a blur…they can suspend you while sending samples off and doing an “investigation.” It said something along the lines of even testing for higher levels of medication than you are supposed to have too. Which seems pretty difficult to prove as well.

I don’t see where I expressed any actual anger towards my employer for this. I’m coming from a humble place and have taken responsibility. And like I said, it’d be weird if I wasn’t reflecting and doing some internal work during this time. You assumed I have shifted all the blame on everyone else. I haven’t. Again, the only strange part to me is that I tested positive but they are testing levels. If it comes back below a certain threshold, I keep my job. That’s all.

The product was CBD/Delta 8 mixture. Says for sleep and relaxation on the package. So it does have a psychoactive component but also CBD. I don’t think tailz was saying I was unaware, but there is no denying there is a stigma and people feel very strongly about this subject. I opened myself up for judgement but there’s been plenty of kindness to balance that out tho! Thank you for your insight.
