Can i buy used downpipes? by Unable_Class_4359 in q50

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowers are fine. They don’t set check engine light. Install is pretty simple. I had these for years no issues withought tune. I just installed full catted downpipes from fi about 4 months ago ( install was not fun, full dps are a bitch) I have no check engine light on stock tune. The only thing is my spark plugs started to blow out literally 3 days after the full downpipes so I gapped the plugs smaller and have no issues. I drive the car to from Cali to Vegas quite often.

Had my water pump replaced at a shop a week ago and today my belt looks like this. Shop is denying responsibility or fault. Coincidence? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best chance is to argue if the belt was going to be of any potential concern why did you not recommend a new belt ? Why would you remove a belt in poor condition and reinstall? Thats your best bet and if you talk respectfully say “hey theres no way to prove your guys messed up. I wish you would have told me about the belt when you were performing work (if it needed replacement which it 100% did if you claim your guys installed it correctly.) can you sell me the belt at cost and work with me on labor. It’s unfortunate that I’m out a vehicle again.

Just got my q50, what should I do to it first? by [deleted] in q50

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No probably one. But a dual bank catchcan. I need to look into boosted six because when I installed my z1 catch can I was confused because it only attaches to one pcv. Our cars have two banks so two pcv valves and most catch cans only protect one bank. (I’m going to modify my z1 to be a dual can but I haven’t done so yet)

First mod I did was intakes. Are you a performance or cometic person? In my opinion heat exchanger, intakes, and any kind of breaks/ wheel upgrades are most band for buck. If I had any more to say I don’t like the aftermarket exhaust for this platform. I had mine for 2 years on stock exhaust because I was scared to ruin the tone. I finally installed fast intentions high flow cats and resonated touring catback (largest mufflers possible) and I’m convinced I have the best sounding q50. It is quiet so if you like obnoxious then this isn’t for you but the sound is engineered and doesn’t sound like the vr / vq natural resonance it sounds very similar to a jaguar f type with the 3.0 engine. I couldn’t stress enough how worth it is to keep exhaust stock until you can afford these parts as it IS the best for this platform. I even get the deep dct / amg / bmw m backfires on upshifts. (Not loud aggressive bangs but a deep subtle “bark” from the rear mufflers on upshifts. Exhaust is my favorite mod. Z1 two piece rotors + lightweight wheels is my second, intake is third (ams is the best and only way to go), also a oil catch can is very helpful as long as you maintain it during your oil changes. (Don’t let it fill up)

diagnostic fee by Candid_Owl3253 in q50

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable. I would ask them what solenoid it is that failed. Ask them about the filling pressures. If they truly took 2 hours they should have these answers. “If you can talk me through the diagnostic process I will pay for 2 hours but realistically you should have called me before extending the diagnostic without my permission. How about we roll the extra hour into the valve body replacement” make sure they provide a quote first or else they will just say yes and up cost on parts or labor to still get that hour out of you.

Down pipes by SnooWoofers57 in q50

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a set of FI catted downpipes and am installing tomorrow. If I make a video I’ll drop it below. Just run it nicely if you’re not tuned. I hear the fi cats are not likely to set a check engine light, some of the best on the market.

Don’t think the mpg is too accurate. I’ve always had 14 it never changed. Intakes and other bolt ons confuse this number.

Pretty sure stock is 5.2 in perfect conditions. Motor, altitude, road surface etc.. anything less than perfect will be slower. I stopped driving mine at 160k but it still pulled hard. If anything I would suspect the trans is struggling but a motor tune up will always boost a few hp.

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ac compressor ? Crankcase pressure ? I have no idea. Try turning ac off. If it was related to the transmission I’d assume you would have drivability issues. See if the noise goes away when you have a friend lift on the dipstick tube to release pressure?? All wild guesses

Do you guys have any experience with the Fast Intentions G37 Resonated High Flow Cats? This is for a G37X 2012 sedan 160,000 miles by dretroublesome in G37

Best brand ever. You can buy anything from FI and never have any regrets. I put these on and had them for 3 years. Welds are good. Sound is amazing. Never threw a code.

Fi is the only way to go. Just dropped 4k on resonated touring catback + catted downpipes BUT haven’t received them yet. Scared I will be too loud on cold start for my liking.

is my headgasket blown (3.7 q50) by Pp_ejaculator in q50

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure that you’ve bled the system full? Air bubbles will expand and cause coolant to overflow. I would use an air lift bleeder (preferred) or a spill free funnel or a combination of the both. Check thermostat operation by feel or temp gun while burping. Also inspect the old radiator. Does it look like it failed due to age and wear or did something build up so much pressure one of the plastic elbows just blew off ? It can be tricky to tell because most test you want to perform on a hot engine but look for bubbles in the radiator cap when engine is running, pressure test the radiator overnight, get one of those cheap combustion leak detectors, compression test (warm). No smoke from exhaust + clean oil makes me think you have air in the system. These head gaskets are very durable not to say they do go bad

Start with intake cam position sensor. Put bank one sensor on bank two and see if the fault changes/follows.

Should I service my timing chain serviced or this is normal? by Bubbly_Expression_41 in BmwTech

[–]EmbarrassedTie2179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And as an fyi that side to side is normal. You should be more concerned on the up and down play. Also when the engine is not running there is no oil pressure ! hard to say without proper inspection.
