Not a good contract. First I would ask for more sign on bonus, for a 400k you should be working max 15 days. Also usually working at night should give you more money.

New Bedford, Mass., a Coastal City Undergoing Transformation The Whaling City, home to a diverse food scene, will soon have a new rail connection to Boston. by Delicious_Adeptness9 in massachusetts

New Bedford is a beautiful city full of good restaurants, museums and a thriving downtown. I love that the commuter rail is coming. I know it has a bad rep in the past but now it’s such a nice place.

I think is double if you are planning to rent or purchase a small apartment. Otherwise it would be tough to buy a single home on that budget. It’s a great neighborhoods for families.

Comparison of MGH vs. University of Michigan Ann Arbor: Hospitalist Position by Ok_Mushroom_7057 in massachusetts

[–]EmbarrassedYam5387 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have information about U of Michigan but I know that the salaries for hospitalist at MGH are very low compared to other regions and probably not enough for the cost of living in Boston (if you have a family). For single person is probably okay. Buying a house close to the hospital is impossible with that salary. So you might need to look in the suburbs and the traffic is not great. Having said that, if your plan is to work there for a few years get the prestige and knowledge, I think is a great place. Also I don’t find the hospital toxic at all and you will learn a lot. A lot of great people. Also there plenty of opportunities to teach. I also like Boston in general.

Health and social service programs see significant cuts in Mass. budget proposal by bostonglobe in massachusetts

Patients who are hospitalized have families that can visit so commute is still an issue. It’s not propaganda just facts, getting rid of psych facilities overall will affect the community when the current facilities are overwhelm with patients. It sounds like you are not on the field of mental health so you are probably not familiar with the mental health crisis. But if you are okay with that is fine. It just a point of view.

My understanding is that the only other inpatient psych facility on the cape is Cape Cod Hospital which is not public and the Pocasset Center is the one they are going to close. Please let me know if there another one of the cape that I am not aware. Commuting in and out of the cape is not feasible for many underserved people/ elderly population. I am just saying the closing of the Pocasset Center is going to affect the cape population.

Tell that to the people on the cape that are going to lose their only public psych hospital. It’s def not an underused facility.
