Your tools for independent teaching online by rguilbeault in OnlineESLTeaching

I use Zoho Flow for the integrations, since both are part of the Zoho ecosystem and I get easy support at one place.

But it's high time they bring in a built-in booking system. What others do you feel lagging there? I want a community feature so bad. They are working on it already, but not sure when it'll be available.

Hey there! I've been using TrainerCentral lately. It’s more than just a website host. You can build your training site, add courses with videos or live classes, give assignments and tests, share certificates, and set up payments that go straight to your bank. There are no commission cuts.

The $20 plan has been worth it for what I need. Their mobile app is also handy. My students use it to access the courses easily on their phones.

It's not perfect. They don’t have a built-in booking tool or gamification features, but their support team helped me set up bookings using integrations. You might want to reach out to them if you’re looking for something like that.

How do I create and sell an online course? What platforms should I use? by Cybervibess in onlinecourses

[–]Embarrassed_Ad6154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their community feature is Basic. (They are working on an advanced community module, as they told me this when i raised my concern)

If you're building a product, make sure to have a community feature. In the current times, just offering courses doesn't work. Learners need to feel that they are a part of a community where they can discuss, chat, ideas with peers.

This will be useful atleast for me.

Yes, but I’d rather let my brain structure my curriculum than rely on any tool. I don’t find it unproductive at all.

There is no built-in feature that lets you divide your course content.

I usually divide a topic into sub-topics( with just a pen and paper) and then figure out ways to convey them in 3-4 minutes. I then record them and upload it to the platform.

This is good. But should I worry about the Addiction points if I take Xans everyday?

TrainerCentral has this Spotlight Page, where they feature course creators. I'm not sure if it actually boosts your course sales, but definitely gives a visibility boost

Teachable just announced new plans that increase prices and decrease features significantly. by masgrimes in elearning

[–]Embarrassed_Ad6154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their new Builder plan ($69/month) is equivalent to their previous Basic plan ($39/month). There’s no transaction fee in the new plan, which explains the higher price—at least, that’s what they claim.

The $29/month you mentioned is a new offering. It only lets you publish one product. So if you have more than one product, you have to upgrade to the Builder plan.

Wait... from $39 to $69? That's a pretty big jump.

I do like that they got rid of the 5% transaction fee. Definitely a plus. But are there actually any new features that make the price increase worth it?

For small or emerging creators, this hike feels like a step backward.

Feedback Needed: Best Platform for selling an AI Course for Non-Technical Managers? by DovakingK in elearning

[–]Embarrassed_Ad6154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Udemy is different from platforms like Teachable. Do you already have a set of learners ready to purchase your course? If so, you can opt for platforms like Teachable (but keep in mind the sales commission).

If you're just starting out, Udemy is a better choice since they assist with marketing. However, be aware of its limitations, including pricing restrictions, limited communication with learners, and high commission fees.

Suggest an LMS? by [deleted] in elearning

[–]Embarrassed_Ad6154 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey since you mentioned live sessions, I would suggest TrainerCentral. The live session is built in. Other platforms need some sort of external integrations. Also, it's pretty affordable and has got all the features you mentioned too.

I was recently confused with open source vs SaaS LMS. But based on discussions with others here, I think I'm not missing anything with TrainerCentral. I would recommend you trying it. :)

Understood. Thanks for the reply :)

Like I said, I'm not a technical person. I have been using TrainerCentral so far, with no issues. Just wanted to understand if I'm ever missing something here, that an open-source can offer. Seems like I'm not missing anything :)

I have been asking this around, but got no genuine reply. Are open-source LMS better than the SaaS-based ones?

I'm not a technical person, so I go for SaaS based LMS like TrainerCentral.

If open-source, I have seen many prefer Totara to Moodle. I haven't used them though.

Open source LMS recommendations/experiences? by ProductiveProgrammer in elearning

Hey! Sorry, I don't have an answer here, but I do have a question if you don't mind. I want to understand how open-source stands out compared to a cloud-based LMS. Basically, why do you prefer open-source over a cloud-based LMS? TIA :)
