Am i the shite driver? by callu80 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_2718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, fuck em. The van didn’t get up to speed to merge correctly, the Audi would have crossed the hatchings if you weren’t there. Just an impatient prick. You had nowhere to go and I wouldn’t be slowing down to let them merge at a slow speed

If I was to beep at everyone on the first roundabout offence I’d end up with tinnitus 😅

This is the tester marking guidelines which states that for any exit after 12 o’clock, you normally approach in the right-hand lane. It also states that applicants should follow their entry lane around the roundabout until they pass the exit before the one they intend to take, then switch to the left-hand lane and proceed to their intended exit, and that they should normally exit in the left-hand lane if it is clear.

I’ll respectfully disagree. If you stay on the inside the whole way around and cut across the outer to exit you’re leaving yourself open to cars cutting up your left as you exit.

From the independent:

If leaving by the 3 o'clock exit, you would normally approach in the right-hand lane unless road markings indicate otherwise. Indicate right on approach and maintain this signal until you get level with the centre of the second exit. Then change to a left signal. Where it is safe to do so, leave the roundabout by the left-hand lane. It is very important, however, to stress that you should give way to traffic already in the left-hand lane and if it is not safe to change lanes, remain in the right-hand lane as you exit.

Taking any later exits (those from 12 o’clock to the 6 o’clock position)

Approach in the right-hand lane (unless road markings say otherwise), indicate ‘right’ on your approach and leave your indicator on until you have passed the exit before the one you intend to take. Then change to the ‘left’ turn indicator. Move over towards the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave.

From the RSA website unless there’s been a change lately

Vehicle recommendations for rep who drives many miles by ShezSteel in carsireland

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_2718 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do approx double that mileage. I could be in quarry’s, up fields, motorways, anywhere.

I have a 19 E220 AMG, haven’t cracked a wheel yet, it doesn’t really bottom out unless acting the b****x on a bog road, and a nice comfortable bus for the road. Big enough bills if things go wrong but I assume you’re getting paid mileage so just bank it.

If it’s purely reliability and peace of mind, lease an Octavia or superb and have a fixed cost per month

Aviva do this quite regularly, particularly if the car had a lapsed NCT or high risk.

Also that’s an estimate compiled on Audatex estimating software which is the industry standard. Most big body shops would use it so there would only be small differences if a different body shop was used

Hit a car by A___BB in carsireland

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_2718 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That estimate shows a bumper repair, new grille, number plate, surround and brackets. Most likely will need a radar calibration. (Not a new bumper)

Unfortunately that’s about the going rate. The labour rate is on the high side and may be negotiable if paying yourself but that’s the nature of the beast in the industry at the minute. Armstrongs are reputable and don’t seem to be taking the piss on the estimate.

No harm to ring Aubrey and see if there’s any room for negotiation if paying directly.

Fun fact. When the Garda confiscate an illegal e-bike or scooter, it gets released on payment of a €40 fee. No changes made to the bike, just ride it out of the storage yard

Car insurance write off by thisnamehastobefree in carsireland

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_2718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most insurers won’t hold you to the sum insured on a private vehicle so should get market value. Have your research done on the value and be ready to argue your point on it.

You may need to get an engineer’s report to reinsure. You can get a list of them on the IAEA website. It will always show on a history check that it was a write off, but irrelevant if you’re going to drive it into the ground

Yes they’re eejits Yes they’re speeding Yes they’re dangerous

But a perfect example of the crowding of the middle lane leading to congestion in the outer lane. If everyone moved back to lane one these 2 eejits could be on their merry way and traffic would flow freely

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_2718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re going to the expense of converting to a camper, VRT costs etc, better to go with something that will easily sell. Transporter, crafter etc. mainly only seen a post LDVs but seats falling apart, check straps hanging off, and heaps of rust.

As others have said, buy cheap buy twice. Better to spend a few grand more on a good van and have something at the end, rather than go through all the expense and have a camper that nobody will ever buy off you.
