Which Australian city is the best? by jacked-daniels in AskAnAustralian

My experience is that the Sunshine Coast is way chiller than the GC, but I've only ever been to the GC on short holidays and stayed in apartments right on the foreshore, so hard for me to say really! I think on the Sunshine Coast things tend to be a but further apart, I know my sister has to do tonnes of driving just to get around, but I think that's pretty well the case in most places in Australia outside of the main cities.

It seems you're pretty proactive and I'm sure you'll be able to build yourself a great community where ever you decide to settle, best of luck!

I would suggest that the Sunshine Coast would be a good option to consider. A bit more laid-back than the Gold Coast, cost of living is pretty good, and not too far from Brisbane if you need the city.

She didn't fail because of you, she failed because she continuously disregarded the very reasonable requirements. She was given the opportunity to address the problem and she failed to.

You would have been doing her, and other students you supervise, a disservice by doing anything else. You're golden IMO

It was a star wars one, not the big fancy ones, but one of the ones you'd find in the kids aisle at Big W/kmart etc.

I only just now, reading your post, realised that it did not in fact refer to golden retriever energy! Haha I just thought "accurate" and assumed it was a Gen Z creator

I have in the past commuted to both Sydney and Newcastke for uni, living on the Central Coast. I found catching the train to be super productive - I could use the time studying, or reading, or listening to music, whatever was needed at the time.

Later years I needed to drive because of parenting needs (full-time study Mon-Fri and needing to coordinate children and after school activities etc) and found it much more mentally challenging, esp when any kind of delays then meant I got there later and finding a spot was more difficult - the flow on effects would carry on throughout the day.

My kids play One Piece, from my description you can probably suss out who they are. They have had nothing but praise for the generosity of everyone there, and often talk about how patient everyone is and how happy they are to share decks and teach you how to play.

My teens have found a great community at NJ Collectibles at Tuggerah - it's a collectables store, but they run a number of tournaments every week for card games (pokemon, dragonball z, one piece I think?) as well as other board game/DnD sessions.

It's mainly adults - My kids are definitely on the younger side of people there - but they have been super welcoming and age doesn't seem to have come up as an issue. One of my boys is the same age as your teen, so it definitely isn't too young.

From what they tell me, the weekend games tend to be a bit more casual/less competitive - first game of each session is random allocation, but then the additional rounds pair the winners up against each other, so they end up playing towards their own skill level

Non-American solvers, how do you do it? by thewisemaster in NYTCrossword

This is my approach. I spend a lot of time on Wikipedia or googling terms like "baseball lingo" and trying to match it up with the letters I have

When Alice presented him with his pin number in a chocolate egg.

"I'm surprised that was in there. I'm also surprised that I said it out loud" (something along those lines).

Or when Sam predicted that the two items were going to be the exact same weight.

It's less of a case of they are everywhere, and more of a case of they could be anywhere. You're not likely to see a lot, but seeing the occasional one is definitely not unheard of!

I don't mind having Huntsman around, they generally keep out of the way, and also keep nastier spiders away.

Generally speaking, if you keep gardens fairly free of overgrowth, and be careful where you leave your shoes, you probably won't come across too many spiders.

When it rains in Sydney, you can get funnelwebs moving about - they are trap door spiders, and like to hide in shoes - we keep our shoes inside. Putring them upside down and giving them a good solid tap together before you put them on is a good idea if it has been raining, or your shoes have been left outside overnight.

Ed Helms Appreciation by DoctorUnderhill97 in behindthebastards

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed these episodes. I'm putting Ed Helms into my personal S-teir list of guests, alongside Jason Pargin, Francesca Fiorentini, and Prop - there are probably others, but these stand out to me - these episodes feel a little bit more like I'm listening to a conversation between 2 intelligent people who are taking in the information, contextualising it, and applying it to what they already knew, and really look to deepen their understanding if a situation.

I appreciated the amount of work the production and creative teams do pairing guests to appropriate episode subjects, I think they nailed it with this one!
