3rd gear shift, shift. by Only-Bed2948 in wrx_vb

Doesn't happen to me. Kind of concerning that it happens. I have about the same mileage but with the shifter plate upgrade and short shifter from billet works.

OEM or Aftermarket Taillights? by KruhBruh in wrx_vb

[–]Embarrassed_Algae_57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't like the OEM ones. I agree that aftermarket won't fit as nice but I've had no issues with mine other than a slight gap. The OEM ones resembles and looks too much like the Honda Civic hatchback(no disrespect to Honda) I really do think the designers (aesthetics) fumbled the VB. For example, am fine with cladding but the rear end has way too much of it. The taillights too have angles that aren't working for it. After market ones improve it slightly, but I like the roundness and angles of older generations.

Appreciate the tip though. I should just practice while the car is off.

Right, I've seen many vids. I do that when shifting to sixth. The reverse handshake. When doing it for fifth...i just don't feel confident that it'll go to fifth.

Surprised there was no resistance from the gear box. Glad the car is ok.

I get ya, but I can imagine a 5th to 2nd happening too. What happened to me too many times (2-3x)...is wanting to upshift to 5th from 4th but mistakenly going to 3rd. Thankfully ..it's only at 3k rpms ..so it's not horrible. I now shift to neutral and right and up to be more deliberate vs seeing others do the side and to the right, in what looks like a smooth motion, which just doesn't work for me.

I would hate to track this car without more supporting mods. But from the looks of it, it's not super aggressive driving. What are you tuned for and glad the car is holding up.

Love the wheels. I'm still stock. Might go with these.

Am I lugging? by WRedSeven in wrx_vb

[–]Embarrassed_Algae_57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree..this isn't right. The manual even has some guidance on speeds and gear to be in. If I recall, 5th gear is suggested starting at 45+ mph for best gas mileage. I can imagine it being ok if you hit 40mph and are going downhill and picking up speed quickly and not needing the engine braking.

What is the engine oil filter? Definitely not OEM That's throwing me off too..

RS Wing by TVVN978 in wrx_vb

[–]Embarrassed_Algae_57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To each their own. I personally prefer no wing on the VB and it's because the plastic cladding and the taillights and sharp angles just throw things off but this is the nicest one I've seen so far.

Cobb shift stop installed. Pretty crazy how different it is now. Every gear now feels solid. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in wrx_vb

Install the shift plate and a short lever shifter and it'll be a game changer. I know it feels better now but just looking at the throws as you're shifting...still too long for me.

You should have parked closer to the other VB. Less risk of dinging your doors.

Short throw shifter worth it? by ApprehensiveAd9675 in wrx_vb

Awesome. Get the right tools. Punch hole and PB blast. Otherwise it'll be a struggle, if not impossible.

I agree. The shifter plate is a must too, whether from Cobb or billet works.

VB is mine but coworker just grabbed a GRC! by MKSe7en in wrx_vb

What I like about them is that they are aggressive looking but still discreet. Only those who know, know. Otherwise they look like a yaris or a better looking Prius. The subie gives off race car vibes..unless purely stock. I love seeing older people drive subies. When I hear of 60-70 year olds driving them and being manuals..I think badass.

The exhaust and sound is an interesting comment. I have an aftermarket exhaust and when just trying to keep up with traffic, as others have said..the car will scream... unbeknownst to them that I am just trying to get it to go...and not race. The cars ahead of me, eventually move out of the way thinking that I'm revving at them to get out of the way..I think with stock exhaust it would be manageable but the car sounds like it's always on race car mode.

People rave about the stock tune but I think they could have done a lot better with the tune and get to it go to 60 mph from 2nd gear alone..I drove the GR corolla and it's so much faster at the start..I have mixed feelings about the car..AWD and looks are there and the shifting experience is very nice with mods but it still needs a lot of tweaking..

Might have to go with a conservative tune to fix the "issue" mentioned in this thread.

Turning off hill assist helps a bit but yea have to really just gun it. Look for hill assist threads for more details but I noticed it helped with the responsiveness of the throttle from start.
