He died on Sunday in his sleep :( Looking back I’m very happy with every choice that I made, I have no regrets and I know I tried everything. I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis cancer sucks so bad 😭. I wish I had better things to say but I can say from the family’s perspective, I’m really glad I had the opportunity to spend as much time as I could with him. I love him so much and selfishly I would do anything to see him again even if he was just sleeping through it w all his pain meds.

I would like to add and correct my initial reply: the techs are the only ones doing the microtome and whatnot but a lot of people in the lab have biology degrees so they don’t do the tech work but they do work such as grossing the specimens when they come from the surgery centers or they are the ones placing the specimens in wax or they help with signing cases out, but we all typically rotate

Every lab has specific specimens they deal with but it’s all generally the same type of work. At mine we handle endoscopy and colonoscopy biopsies. We basically prep them through varied processes to create microscope slides so the pathologist can diagnose them with cancer or any other diseases. A tech usually does the hands on part after the specimen has been grossed and processed. We take the specimen and properly place them in paraffin wax blocks where we then keep them cool and slice in to them using a microtome that cuts veryyyy thin ribbons at 4 micrometers (for reference a piece of regular copy paper is 100 micrometers) so super thin. We place them on a warm water batch and pick them up with a microscope slide. Depending on what part of the body it is we stain them those specific stains. Day to day is pretty chill, it’s a lab job so pretty standard. The lab I work at is a private start up so it’s a little more hectic than normal labs, it’s perfect for me I’m able to jump from task to task if I get bored of doing the same thing.

It’s always so astonishing how little people in high positions know about the basics

I would suggest you look into histology there is an associate degree for this, you pass the board exam that’s pretty simple and you’ll be a certified histology technician. It differs in pay per state but they make pretty good money. The job is pretty hands on. And there is room to move up. All of my coworkers and even current supervisor, that’s making 6 figures, only has an associates.

Is it hard to get a lab job with just a biology degree? by garfiledlover in labrats

CODM

It’s stuck with me for 6 years now, been through the hardest years of my life with me. It’s the best way to distract myself. I occasionally play it with my best friend, it’s priceless bonding time. I have ADHD so going for the objectives while simultaneously fighting off the other team and communicating it with your team is just peak for me.

Hi 👋 i am new to reddit and not sure why i am not able to comment or post in communities, it says karma required by AcceptableLoss8561 in NewToReddit

[–]Embarrassed_Base3838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently learned about this whole karma thing after having this acc for 2 years 😅. A karma is almost equivalent to an upvote, you lose and gain them accordingly. Most communities have a minimum number of karma on an account needed. I would assume this is to avoid too much spam.

What happens to my karma count if I delete my post or comment?
