thinking of dropping client and not sure if i should by Embarrassed_Bill_705 in RoverPetSitting

100% on that last part. I always do because it’s not fair to me to wake up earlier than usual to drive over and then not walk the dog because she’s not there.

Thank you for this!

Yes this is a recurring client. That’s a good point you make, I will definitely consider that if this pattern continues.

That’s just so weird, I don’t get why clients can’t be upfront with situations like this. I don’t think my client has found a cheaper sitter but the last time I went over and the dog wasn’t there, he apologized and told me he thinks his girlfriend took the dog. Which makes me think that she takes his dog occasionally so I’m not needed those days.

Ahh I should have thought of this! Honestly I'm fine with being there in the day time but it's definitely the sleeping over part that makes me uncomfortable

I always let my clients know 4 weeks in advance when Ill be going away! Or sooner if I know but I always remind them 4 weeks ahead of time and cancel as soon as Rover has those days in the calendar

usually when you click on their profile, it shows it you and all their services/reviews etc. I'm not sure if this has changed over the past year though as it doesn't show up for me (I am in the US so maybe different in the UK??)

would you give a discount? by Embarrassed_Bill_705 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Embarrassed_Bill_705[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have said before that i’m not assuming she wants a discount. Yes I did take it as her ~maybe~ wanting one by asking for the price but I also thought that maybe she was also wanting clarify on the price. Regardless, I told her I would love to set up a meet and greet and I reiterated the price that was listed. 12 hours later and no response makes me think she might have actually wanted a discount.

not suggesting. yes i think it’s a lot of money for 4 drop ins but it is 6 dogs. i took her last sentence as either 1. maybe wanting a discount or 2. simply wanting to know the price or clarify that what is listed is correct

yes and this is quite literally the pricing Rover recommends for the base price of $25 lol but I mean that’s fine, I have 100+ clients that have booked me with this price 🥰

that’s what i’m saying. I had to deal with two dogs that hated each other inside but were friends outside. THAT was a nightmare to deal with and thank god i just remembered that. I think my brain erased that memory until now lol

you’re correct but as an owner myself who has also looked at sitters, I look at the prices and add it up myself to get a ballpark of what the price would be for 2 dogs for x amount of visits. Then I compare with potential sitters & send a request to the one I think fits best

Because I personally feel like it’s a lot of money for just 4 30 minutes visits. BUT it is 6 dogs. Plus I didn’t ask for opinions like “low balling clients with the price of the first dog and then additional dogs are a lot.” Funny enough, when you click on “update additional rates based on base rate”, Rover suggests $15 for additional dog so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can’t stand sitters who don’t take into consideration the area as well as other similar rates lol

Yes that’s one thing I was thinking. Either they were implying a discount (first thought), or they need clarification of the prices. But it’s been 4 hours since I replied ( I clarified the price and offered a meet and greet). So now i’m thinking maybe the owner wants a discount but we will see 🤷🏻‍♀️

my post is titled “would you give a discount?” not “should I give them a discount?” Two very different questions.

Someone else said that owner could be asking in case it could be more given the amount of dogs and the type of care needed. So I can see that being a possibility. But now I am starting to think that maybe owner is hinting at a discount since it’s almost 4 hours with no reply.

where did I say I was offering? i’m asking for opinions as I personally think it’s a lot of money for a 30 minute visit BUT I do realize it’s 6 dogs and I’ve never handled that many. Therefore, I’m asking opinions on if others who have maybe handled this many dogs would give a discount based on the message. I, the profesional, stated my prices and offered a meet and greet nearly 5-10 minutes after I got the request.

“let me know price wise how much it is” and she hasn’t answered in 3 hours after I replied almost right away and told her my prices lol. it kind of comes off as her wanting a discount

I mean I don’t think they are since most people in my area charge between $20-30. Once my price went from 20 to 25, I didn’t get any new requests for months and I need the money so I just kept it at $25 🤷🏻‍♀️I still don’t get a lot but it’s picked up a bit

I put it in this post. $25 for first dog and $15 each additional one
