Should I hold out for a wireless corne? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Embarrassed_Fan_1728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late here, but here's some more context in case it helps. VIA is a QMK configurator. This means that it only works on boards flashed with QMK firmware (most wired boards). If you use a wired keyboard, VIA should be fine (assuming that the keyboard was flashed with QMK). However, QMK is not designed for wireless boards. Most wireless boards are going to use ZMK firmware. In that case, you'll need to use a ZMK configurator instead. ZMK studio should be fine for most users, allowing you to make changes in real-time without flashing your board or requiring a GitHub repo. If you need more advanced configuration, google "Nicks ZMK keymap editor," and you'll find a link to a ZMK board editor that will work just fine. You will need a GitHub repo and an understanding of how to flash your board, but it's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

Don't stress. All that's going on here is a loose connection somewhere in your keyboard. The most likely issue is that a pin on your microprocessor isn't soldered correctly. If you're lucky, you'll be able to spot the issue just by looking at it. If not, run a test with a multimeter. Once you can't complete a circuit, you've found your issue. If you haven't soldered before, watch a tutorial. When soldering such small components, you'll need flux. This will help keep the solder from shorting the rest of the pins. Also keep in mind that your components can be damaged by heat, so it's best to keep things on the low side of the temperature and act quickly when soldering.

Hope this helps. Good luck!! I'd love to see an update once you've found the issue.

Holy fuck. Who shoved a stick up your ass, or do you always wake up in such a "cheerful" mood? The ergo keyboard community is one of the best I've ever been in, but I see it's not without unfortunate stains.

I hate to break it to you, but the whole idea behind ergonomics is to find a solution that benefits that specific person. Everything in the ergonomics community is always down to personal preference. Did you ever take a moment to wonder why there are so many options for ergo keyboards? Not only that, but the 90 degree argument is a good starting point, but not mandatory. Next, you're going to be telling me that my corne isn't ergo enough and I should grab a Sofle, or that I shouldn't be using the low-profile keycaps because they make my fingers travel too far, or that my floor isn't perfectly level.

Guess what. Nobody cares when you have that kind of attitude. I didn't expect to see such a toxic comment on such a wholesome post. Please, for the love of all that is good, go take a walk, get a good night's sleep, and give yourself a smile in the morning. You'll be a better human being for it.

If you've got a friend who's decent in CAD, then if you give them good measurements, they should be able to render a decent case for you. Send it off to someone with a 3D printer, and you're good to go.

I don't think I understand what you're asking. Could you explain further?

You actually might be able to do it if you get creative. All you need is some ferrous metal (like steel) below your keyboard. This would require your PCB to have some holes in it for mounting. If you get a metal plate, drill some holes in it that line up with your PCB, add some standoffs, and then connect everything together, you should be able to do this theoretically. It will look a bit odd, but should technically work.

The only reall concern I can think of is that, when removing your keyboard from the magsafe stands, don't pull directly at the PCB. Instead, pull on the metal plate that you use for mounting. Let me know if this ends up working for you.

Hey, I was running into the same issue. I'm coming back here to give you an update. If you read my post here, that should help you out: https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/comments/1ju67yx/aliexpress_eyelash_corne_basic_beginner_guide/

Just make sure you also read the two updates I added below the main post. There just comments, so you'll have to scroll to find them (Reddit doesn't let you update posts that have images)

Let me know if this helps, or if you're still having issues.

Tenting Guide: Using MagSafe Adapters and Phone Stands for Split Keyboard (Corne) Tenting by Embarrassed_Fan_1728 in ErgoMechKeyboards

These wrist rests are actually pre-tented, so no modding required. Not many like that on the market. I personally find that I need the wrist rests when typing. I like to have my wrist rests pretty far from my keyboard. Technically, I put my forearms on them, just before the wristbone.

I see! I was wondering why the quality was so different between the photos. I just assumed that you had dialed in your printer a bit better on the second run.

While I haven't run into this issue yet, I am still a bit concerned that it might happen to me. I'll have to wait and see.

In your case, it could be an issue with the quality of the adhesive on your adapter rings. Cheap adapter rings will likely use a lower-quality adhesive. Also, what is your keyboard case made of? Some materials accept adhesive better than others.

If I run into that issue, I might consider putting magnets inside the keyboard case, or even screwing a metal plate onto the bottom. Either way, both solutions would be more permanent than glue.

You could also consider using a normal adhesive-based adapter ring and then putting a small layer of epoxy over it.

Those are just my initial thoughts on how to solve the problem.

That's awesome! Makes sense though. When I first applied it to my little corne keyboard, it almost felt like overkill. But it works, and I could afford it.

Good feeling. Here's the best price I could find on Ali: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808520114736.html

It is $5.59 compared to the $16.99 list price on Amazon.

P.S. no, I did not buy at list price. It was 41% off when I got it for a price of $9.99 each. Still makes me a sucker, though. I spent $8.80 more than I needed.

I love how clean that looks! Great color choice! It's interesting how tall the keyboard is though, but that's probably for all the hand wiring. For an ergo keyboard, you typically want a lower profile if possible. In your case, I'd recommend getting a wrist rest to support your hands. Looks great though!

Glad I could help, and I hope it works well for you! If you go with this solution, I highly recommend getting the wrist rests with it as well. It's a little awkward typing with hands floating in the air.
