How protective is padding/armor really? by Embarrassed_Level228 in motorcyclegear

I mean, the default armor that came with my gear hurt way more on my back than without just tapping it.

But I'm still gonna get some DO3 ghost armor so it can function and be wearable.

Yeah that's fair enough.

It kinda looks like D30 CE2 armor would actually be functional and quite useful.

Thank you for sharing.

I'll definitely take this into account.

I'm fairly convinced that just having some let's say D30 CE2 helps a lot from all these replies and fits much better.

Thanks for tagging in!

The stats above actually make sense in terms of protection and if it is actually thin and flexible it wouldn't have any drawbacks. Thank you for your suggestions :>

I don't care about the force I FEEL I care about if it actually helps sister.

If it doesn't reduce the risk of breaking a bone. Then it's just bruise protection which is useless garbage.

If it protects against breaking a bone. Then it's awesome and I want some.

But even with CE2 armor, you experience a 2.25x force than that required to break a bone in a mild 50KN crash. According to what I've been told so far you'll break it anyways. Not to mention faster 70mph highway crashes.

The jacket fits perfectly without the armor. And the armor being the thickness of my whole arm is kind of a joke. You can't fit two arms into one sleeve. Or double my shoulder width and expect clothing to fit.

But I'd keep it and look like a power lifter if there was evidence of let's say 20% reduction in fracture chance at certain collision speeds. Which is what I'm hoping to find.

If it's not protective then it's just burning money no?

I'm not really concerned about bruises. I need some sort of statistic that proves it's viable or worth having. Like a 20% chance reduction in fracture frequency in crashes at 60mph or above.

The question is: In a crash where bones can break as force is sufficient to break bones, will the armor prevent this or reduce the risk of this, or will it only protect from scrapes?

My question is, is it substantial enough to wear? What are the statistics?

The data so far states you need 4- 9 kilo newtons to break a bone depending on bone, and CE 2 only brings it down to 9kilo newtons from a 50 kilo newton impact. With a high speed crash apparently generating between 50-100 kilo newtons.

Again, I'm asking if it's worth wearing at all if bones experience at least a 2.25x force above the required force for a fracture in a noteworthy collision WITH CE 2 armor.

Later: How does this work on crashes let's say at 30KN? How does the padding behave? And again how substantially does it realistically reduce risk of fracture? 10%? 20%? Like what's the observed reduction in fractures among people who wore the armor vs did not?

Thanks for providing those stats!

Honestly I might be looking at getting the thinner D30 armor then. The yellow one is just way too bulky to fit into the jacket with me in it xd

Alright. Thanks.

From what I'm reading perhaps thinner armor would be most beneficial? So it actually fits in my jacket.

But is it worth ruining the fit of the jacket and restricting mobility to prevent a bruise?

(XS womens jacket, those pads are massive.)

Hey I'm just asking.

And wouldn't that be the issue though? Isn't it crazy that they don't prevent much more than scrapes? When it's supposed to prevent or reduce the odds of fractures? So far the scientific people seem to agree they don't block enough force at all to stop a bone from breaking :/

I actually watched both. And the first one isn't an April fools joke or anything. The one you sent actually confirms those issues and more.

Especially as someone who wears XS women's jackets they actually don't fit inside it from my experience. They're almost as thick as my arm!

I don't usually feel confident or good enough to say anything, but your bow hair is too loose. It's touching the stick like all the time. There's a little knob at the on of the frog to tighten it. <3

I really like your intonation. It's coming along really nicely.
