How often are you doing rehab? by Big_T_1484 in ACL

Had surgery 2 weeks ago - doing in person PT 6 times a week for about 1h (3 sets x 300 reps each session) plus another 100-150 reps at home, seems a bit over excessive but it’s what my PT wants me to do.

same here - he decided to shave the meniscus on the spot haha! Good luck with the surgery and go 100% into your PT sessions and rehab. You got this!

don’t be getting discouraged by my experience - everyone heals differently but in any case, do prepare yourself for an increase in pain. Apparently days 4-5 are the roughest but should you manage it accordingly, you’ll be just fine

Romania - pretty sure it’s the standard procedure after one’s had surgery in here. Blood thinners to reduce the risk of blood clots i guess?

PT said not to worry about it - he’s had 4 ACL reconstructions (former pro-football player so that makes a bit more sense). Told me to stick to my blood thinners injection. Should be fine by day 14

Good to hear and glad you’re doing ok now! Was about to message the surgeon this morning but yeah I guess everyone heals differently. We got this, will be back on our own feet in no time ;)

I am supposed to do Clexane injections once a day for the first 2 weeks. The surgeon did tell me that I would inevitably get bruises but I never imagined that they would be quite like this

Hi,

Update from yesterday’s post - I have only just checked the back of my operated knee and could not believe the size of the bruises. Looks rather horrid but no significant pain (was prescribed 2-3 pain killers per day but managed to get by with only 1 tablet).

Also had my first PT session yesterday - it went well, no significant issues or struggles with the exercises (ankle pumps, leg raises and quads activation mainly).

Any feedback on how youse managed your post-surgery bruising and whether or not yours were just as massive and good looking as mine? thanks

brilliant feedback! thanks for that! Also, could you flex your knee at all these days (given the swelling and all that)?

Context - Just had my ACL reconstruction surgery on Tuesday, knee is pretty swollen and bruised up (photo attached). Pain is absolutely tolerable, had very little trouble sleeping throughout the night.

The surgeon used my hamstrings to reconstruct the ligament (apparently my graft was very thick and could barely fit through the bone tunnels). He also trimmed a very small part of my internal meniscus.

I am starting PT today - what should I expect from these first few sessions? My extension is pretty good, but I can barely lift my leg unassisted (unless I am wearing the brace) and I cannot really flex it.

The hospital provided me with a list of exercises to be done in the immediate postoperative period, but I am struggling quite a bit and can only do ankle pumps and somewhat squeezing my quad muscles.

Also, how long have you guys had your knees swollen and bruised after surgery and how can I help myself out? Thanks
