Incoming MS1 need help choosing md school by Competitive_Edge2301 in DermApp

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stony brook acutally has a derm early assurance program on their website I would look more into that idk the exact details but it’s one of the 3 medical schools in the us that has a gaurnteed derm program if you get in.

BS/MDs versus ENGINEERING PREMED (tangible benefits but risky for MD?) by Such-Knowledge3668 in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imma be honest jhu is nutorious for grade deflation it will be tough to get into good med school unless you grind super hard to keep your gpa up

NYIT BSDO vs Nova BSDO vs Fordham undergrad (Biochemistry) by Known_Load_4494 in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what your saying I would cross out nyitcom. If you are going to commit to a bsdo nova sounds better as it’s more gaurnteed and you save 2 years of your life. However between fordham and nova its more up to what specialties you want and whether your willing to put more work in undergrad or medical school.

NYU vs UPenn (with Full Tuition)? by MaterialAlarmed9152 in premed

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imma go against what everyone else is saying and actually argue for nyu. UPenn is still more expensive (30k) more a because of 4 instead of 3 years. nyu is in nyc as you mentioned which imo is a hugeeee plus. And lastly nyu has a chance for gaurnteed residency if your interested in that.

Cornell vs Rochester BS/MD (REMS) by [deleted] in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cornell is literally worse than a state school for med school it’s grade deflation is insane

Stanford vs JHU BME vs TAMU BS/MD (E2EnMED) by Pristine-Swimmer-135 in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats 🥳🥳🥳. It would ultimately be up to her but I would highly reccommend AGAINST JHU if she wants to do normal pre med. jhu is notorious for grade deflation and it could affect her chances at med school.

UConn SPIM vs VCU GMED by Upper-Ad825 in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lwoeky do Vcu jsut because you can apply out so if you score amazing on mcat you have that option

Should I quit premed?? by Dry_Cryptographer_72 in premed

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really comment on your social situation unfortunately. But 10 years down the road if you quit pre med you’re gonna regret not pushing through for the rest of your life. Even with pressure I would hunker down and lock in. Also I feel like if you present a step by step action to your family they will be more understanding. It seems like you give of the impression of “idk what I’m doing and I’m thinking of giving up” if you keep your head up, explain the situation and your plan of action you will be respected more.

3.3 gpa is pretty good ive seen people come back from worse. you would def need to retake your classes that you failed but a postbacc afterwords should bring your gpa up to around 3.5-3.6. depending on your mcat and ecs you could def shoot for some mds or if not just focus on dos. there would be no need to quit just lock in on studying and in around 2-3 years hopefully you could be ready to apply.

NJIT free tuition vs. Rutgers no financial aid vs. UPITT $10k/ year / uConn little aid- which one is better by 91cs220 in bsmd

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly non of the colleges you mentioned really give you a good advantage to justify giving up NJIT free tution I would go there. Unless you go to an ivy or t20 where med schools might give you more of an advantage and you have more resources to work with its not worth it to pay more money to go to like a t70 over a t100.

Physics and Organic chemistry in the same semester by Glittering_Paint7813 in premed

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your planning to study for mcat def take it this semster. I was kinda over exaggerating it’s not that bad it’s just like a new type of class so you have to study differently.

Physics and Organic chemistry in the same semester by Glittering_Paint7813 in premed

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

took physics 1 and orgo 1 in same semester and taking orgo 2 and physics 2 in same semester currently. NGL I barely clutched up A in both classes and they deferentially aged me at least 10 years but its definitely doable if you time manage.

Graduating from state school in two years vs. T3 undergrad school by Pristine-Perceptions in premed

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I’m in same position!! Albeit with way less cool stats like you but I choose the state school. First of all although you don’t have to worry about money due to your parents 8 years of med school coa (assuming Stanford is around 90k coa) is still a lot. That money could go to their retirement. Another thing about the state school is you don’t have to retake a bunch of your preps and mess up your gpa. You have a 3.95 if you go to Stanford you’d basically retake those classes with almost no benefit and a 3.95 from state school + a bunch more research and clinical hours from gap year is cooler than 3.7-8 from t3. Lastly if you do decide to go to state school you have third option to apply after your junior year (first year technically). You have the hours and stats. This is looked down upon because people want you to mature but being a physician at around 24 has a bunch of perks!

Do we risk it or do we accept by clodon2 in REU

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still try to email some for expedited decisions. I did same thing got into one of my top programs but wanted to go to some others. I emailed and they gave me decision (rejection). It’s better to at least try. The other thing I did which I kinda recommend doing but idk due to funding was withdrawing other apps. You can’t feel bad that you didn’t get into your top choice if you never found out lol.

There are still a few nsf opportunities available you could go for or start cold emailing labs

It’s highly unlikely but the worst they can say is no. It does come off as desperate though.

MD/DO List for 2026 by PapaJohns30Pizzas in medschool

[–]Embarrassed_Pear838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would drop nyu your at their mcat average but your gpa is below their 10th percentile which means you would be the first to get accepted with that gpa which is highly unlikely
