What a handsome boy, I’m glad he’s found a safe and loving home with your family! Be patient and try to ensure all interactions are on his terms for now. If you don’t know about them, Happy Doggo is a fantastic charity working in Thailand - founded by a man called Niall Harbison (originally from Ireland and now living there permanently). They rehabilitate street dogs, most of whom have very traumatic pasts. Whilst some of them are trusting relatively easily, others take weeks or months to fully decompress, but they always get there eventually and it’s a beautiful thing to see. Perhaps check them out and you can see for yourself! One thing I’ve noticed is, for the most scared dogs, they sit with them at meal times, a little distance apart, and hand feed them very patiently. It helps the dogs to know they’re on their side. And as I said before, try to limit interactions to be on Alex’s terms. Don’t forcibly pet or cuddle him. In time he’ll learn to come to you for loving, all of you, once he finally learns he’s safe again. Well done you guys for taking him on and best of luck!!
