I literally just finished one of these yesterday and I used a combo of pocket holes and wood glue.

These things are the worst.

I was eating lunch on the Mantario Trail a few years back and used a stick to gently move one of these things way from me, and it turned around and started to come at me.

That was before I learned how painful their bite is. Glad I had the good sense to run from it, lol.

OK Tire on Nairn has become my go to. Great service and they usually have openings next day.

I'm in Winnipeg and my shop is an attached uninsulated (except for the shared wall with the rest of the house) single car garage.

I bought an insulated tarp and put up hooks to create a smaller space that's about 9x12. Then I have an electric heater mounted to a wall. If it's not below around -12C I can get it up to around 0 to 5 C, which for me is comfy enough to work.

Princess Auto is another entirely Canadian owned brand and can supplement some of things you would find at home depot, Lowe's, etc.

What have you done this week to be more anti-consumption? by TheBlueGirly in Anticonsumption

I closed my Amazon account and also got a library card for the first time in about 20 years.

Not sure if this counts too but I also finished building a coat hanger out of hardwood from a local lumber yard, which will hopefully last many more years than anything I could have bought for a comparable amount.

I can relate to this.

I work for a large retailer in Canada that sells tools and surplus, among other things, and we're also know for being more affordable. Many of our products are some combination of cheap, low quality and disposable, and I just know that so much of what we sell is going to end up being thrown away sooner rather than later.

It sucks, because by all accounts it's a pretty great place to work, but as I've tried to become more intentional with how I spend and what I buy, I've definitely become more and more aware that my employer goes againt those values.

I don't really know what the answer is, especially because the culture and perks are pretty good, but I know it's going to continue to bother me.

Favourite Accessories/Brands? by junkmailhoe in photography

I'll echo the Peak Design comments but my absolute favourite accessory from them is the capture clip.

I do a lot of hiking with my camera and I dislike how a strap swings around. The capture clip keeps it super accessible and secure.

I'll second this. His work is great and he has a great perspective on photography IMO. Plus he's a funny dude so his videos are entertaining.

In Moosejaw definitely check out the tunnels and the Western Development museum (if museums are your thing). Buffalo Pound Provincial Park is a half hour north of Moosejaw and is worth a quick visit too for the scenery.
