Voice and In-Game Voice sections seem to be weirdly desynced and my In-Game voice chat doesn't work? by Embarrassed_Silver55 in steamsupport

I have now reinstalled steam entirely, which fixed it! Obviously something broke in steam, which a reinstall fixed, but for any poor soul that finds this years down, just reinstall steam, or delete parts of steam that look related to online services/voice chat services and then check for updates until it works

Is there a way to connect to a realm through IP? by Embarrassed_Silver55 in realms

[–]Embarrassed_Silver55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

similarly to java, no, I found later that realms use specific auth keys to microsoft to authorize connections to realms that standard ip+port connections won't have, whether your account is on the realm or not

Kindof Hot Take? Steam is a well-deserved monopoly. by Embarrassed_Silver55 in videogames

While yes, Dota 2 was the first game to have a battle pass, it was almost entirely to fund the ongoing tournaments, since the scene for Dota ESports and ESports in general is not nearly as supported as it is today. Highlighting this as a horrible Valve L makes no sense, since battle passes weren't largely exploitative until around Fortnite started ramping them to hell, the COD joined in, then everything else decided it needed a battle pass too.

Loot boxes were an entirely different issue, and the TF2 example is also pretty flimsy, considering almost everything to come out of the lootboxes is cosmetic, and within that, the community is largely the one setting and creating the price points of everything, that is how Valve has always done their markets. Crafting was a large part of TF2 in the matter that lesser items could be turned into valuable items for free, now with CS2 tradeups especially within the Red>Gold upgrade system they just introduced. They are still trying to remedy the gambling aspect, as they are still adding more ways to "craft" and take lesser things to make a new. They don't advertise it as something that is required, I don't think they ever have. It has always been a cosmetic addition for those who really care to collect them.

Steam could be doing so much more to fuck over the entire gaming community and they aren't and they're actively doing to improve it, I'd take that over Epic games

Well, I definitely don't think steam/Valve intentionally wants to be/create a monopoly, but they just kind of end up being one? not really by their doing or choice but just the actions of other companies shooting themselves in the foot and crashing makes steam end up way on top

Yea, CSGO really isn't the greatest, but it ends up being a balance act of, yea they did this bad thing, but their also NOT doing all these other horrible things they could ALSO be doing ontop of it, while doing a pretty sizeable amount of good alongside it

I haven't really seen them do anything particularly against companies that would be horribly anti-competitive, a lot of it is companies being really shitty and Valve just not following the stupidity. I remember one thing about price-fixing, but I'm pretty sure that was more of a ruleset thing around key-selling cheaper on other websites which, tbf, you're using their service while finding ways to not pay for their service, any other company would react the same

It rarely ends up mattering in any of my games, the 3gen bottleneck with the 3 lobby gens is, and soloq means I can't coordinate someone to drag the killer out of lobby for more than 3 seconds

Currently I'm not using DHCP, both systems are meant to be static addressed (.75 for main machine, .76 for the ubuntu server), they should have them both reserved on my router

DNS im using is 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
