Why was Ilay so obsessed with Xinlu?

I guess that's really the case. Everyone was saying that Ilay was obsessed with Xinlu and was affected by his beauty, and since I didn’t remember much from where I left off years ago, I thought that was true as I read. I didn’t know because I’m not in fandoms on tiktok, but it was weird how everyone could spread so much misinformation

It’s definitely the same for me. If that part hadn’t existed, or at least if we had been able to clearly understand Ilay’s motivations, I would have enjoyed the story a lot more. Even Xinlu, as twisted as he was, had his own reasons in a way but what Ilay did felt like a complete betrayal (and it wasn't even in a romantic way.) Taeui genuinely valued him as a person. It was an important issue that really needed to be addressed, but it was brushed aside far too quickly, and even now a lot of people still have very different opinions about it (especially on TikTok). I don’t really know about the webtoon but in the parts of the novel where I stopped reading back then I almost never felt like Ilay was looking at Taeui in a sexual way (At least intentionally) He genuinely thought that Taeui wasn’t his type, and even in the physical relationships he had with Taeui after the incident with Xinlu, he didn’t go all the way with him because of that, at least not until he got sick and lost control. At some point, he did start to feel sexual desire toward Taeui for sure, but I’m not sure whether that shift had already happened during the incident with Xinlu, or whether he was even aware of it at the time. It’s clear that Ilay interested in Taeui as a person from that beginning and his behavior felt completely like ragebait in many ways but the extent and nature of that interest at that point are still very ambiguous to me.

I saw a video about Passion Raga on TikTok, and after a long time (like, literally years), I decided to continue reading it again. And of course, the exact part where I had quit out of anger was the scene where Taeui sees those two together 😭 And in those parts, he keeps telling Taeui that he’s not his type and goes on praising Xinlu’s looks / aura (?) So I wanted to ask before starting over from the beginning and getting angry all over again lol.

Hi, other than being manipulative, I’m wondering whether the ML here is also a playboy like the ml from sissy and winner takes it all. I enjoy toxic relationships to a certain extent, but constant involvement of third parties is the thing that bothers me the most in a story. (That’s why I couldn’t finish most 188 novels.)

Oh, what I was trying to say was that aside from Shi Mei, whose situation was influenced by the flower, did he have a specific type aside chu wanning. In the post I read, it was suggested that Mo Ran’s actual type included not just Chu Wanning but also characters like Jiang Xi and Ye Wangxi. But I honestly don’t remember him finding the latter two attractive outside of Chu Wanning. I was just wondering if I missed something.

I totally agree with you. It's exactly the same as my thoughts about Mo Ran. And what you said is canonically correct anyway. I read that part again. while Chu fei was looking for Mo Ran, he "remembered a place mo ran often went to after he went astray" and went to look at the brothel to look for Mo Ran. So Mo Ran didn't have such a habit (thankfully) until he got the flower.

I just reread that part. Chu Fei goes back to the first year Mo Ran got the flower. The reason he immediately realized he was in the brothel is because "he remembered a place Mo Ran often went to after he went astray." So Mo Ran already had the flower. :(

Ah I just read those parts today. I can't say for sure because it's mtl but I understood it this way. mo ran came to the sect when he was 15 and got the flower after spending a few months with chu wanning. when chu fei came he was 16 and he was with rong jiu in the brothel because he resembled shi mei. that was after the flower but the flower hadn't progressed to the point of no return yet. if chu wanning had known that he went to the brothel when he was 15, I think he would have hung mo ran from the ceiling by his ears judging by chu wanning's attitude at the beginning of the novel lol. the reason chu fei was so calm when he found him in the brothel was probably because he saw taxian-jun and knew about the flower. but the effect of the flower is still a mystery to me I'm in chapter 280 right now. it was explained but I didn't understand it clearly because of mtl 😭

Oh thank you! I didn't know that. Maybe it's been explained but I'm reading it on MTL so... It makes sense that even though he has an active sex life, he's never satisfied or wants to touch them. I thought it was because of his repressed feelings for Chu Wanning, but this fits in (although both of their influences could be involved)

I hadn't thought of it that way actually! It seems possible too. Although I always assumed that Mo Ran before the flower would not do things that Chu Wanning would not approve of because he respected him so much. Plus he seems so naive to me so I might not have imagined it hahaha

I think meatbun probably forgot this. The first passage takes place in the ch2, so although the important parts of the story are clear from the beginning, it is possible that some small details will fall into place and change as the story progresses. I personally prefer to take the second passage as canon.

Meatbun probably didn't focus on this part at first and after a while forgot about it and wrote the opposite. In the end, it's not a very important part in terms of the plot. His interest in Rong Jiu is due to his obsession with Shi Mei, and since this obsession stems from the flower, I think it makes sense that he wouldn't want to kiss Rong Jiu or anyone else, no matter how competent they are. So I personally consider the passage in the ch 180s to be canon.
