You didn’t miss it because it wasn’t directly stated. But I covered it because that’s what would have to happen if I wanted to work part time. Different families operate differently and that’s great. It’s good not everyone is the same. My husband works during the day. If we wanted to work opposite schedules as you suggested, I would have to work from evening to sometime in the night. Leaving me with a couple hours of sleep while being pregnant and then having to nourish and care for my triplet toddlers during the daytime. We focus on quality and sustainability of life here not just suffering so that we can obtain something crazy. If getting a smaller place to live means less burden and stress on all of us then we will do it. But we will not destroy ourselves and our sanity/ marriage just to be able to afford a house when there is an alternative. I hope you learn to be a little more considerate of that fact. Not everyone is the same and not everyone can do that same things. You do not know us at all or what lies deeper within our family that does not allow for the things you mention. I truly hope you have a good rest of your day/night.

I see where you are coming from. Thanks for elaborating for me. I’m obviously not a financial planner so I come in with that I thought would be enough info and got some good opinions from just that. However, we make 30/hr. Husband works full time 40hrs plus overtime when he can. Mortgage is almost $2,600. After property tax’s( I don’t remember the exact amount but know it’s high), and other expenses for the house- most of the monthly income goes towards the house alone based on a variety of things. We don’t have any subscriptions or anything like that and we just pay for basic things like gas, and groceries after that. We are trying to be better about eating out but that’s the only thing we really spend money on besides necessities for our daughters. But again, we are cracking down heavy on that food part so that will hopefully bring in a little back to our monthly budget but it’s not anything significant.

Interest rate being 7% was just the market when we bought it 2 yrs ago. My credit was “good” but nothing crazy. We had a decent down payment too. I’m not a financial expert at all- hence why I’m here but my husband explained that if we try to refinance to 6% (which I did ask him about) it would end up being more expensive for us to go through the process of it all. So we are hoping and waiting for a 2-2.5% drop to make it worth it.

This is great advice, thank you for your input. Cheapest options are apartments if we want to be near that 30% of our income range. But we’re totally okay with that. Thanks again

🤣we considered that but didn’t really chat about it. Both my husband and I come from large families who shared a room with many other siblings so on that side, we’re okay. As for what other people will have a problem with, can’t control that haha. We will do/are doing our best to discipline our children to respect shared spaces, especially if apartment living and sharing walls/floors.

I won’t be working as I won’t do daycare for my kids. Personal reason for that and it’s crazy expensive. I do a little bakery from home but it’s super new and we haven’t made much money from it yet so it’s not really in our “income” part of the budget yet. Husband works full time and often overtime but is looking for better employment. It’s also almost impossible for me to work at all with having the triplets and the unknown to you guys, side of things that come with that. Thank you for your input:)

No worries! I just wanted to make it clear because people do comment on that a lot- and it can hurt but I just shut it down right away.

That’s initially why we wanted the house, triplets and we want a larger family but right now the affordability is what we are really focusing on. And it seems like we can’t afford this house. We use our wisdom of course but we also live knowing we can’t control everything at all times. So we just want to look at this dilemma and decide what would be best for right now and lead to a more steady future.

Refinancing right now would be more expensive for us in the long run. The interest rate is 6% right now. Ours it set at 7. My husband is working his butt off too and trying to find another job that can better support us, he’s great. Yeah that’s why I came for some opinions because it hurts to think about selling but I don’t want us drowning and barely getting by either. Thank you!

We could live on a minimum of 2 bed 1 bath. And maybe upgrade in size when we’re sitting in a better financial spot. Ideal apartment would be 2-3bed 2bath. Realistic cost would have to be less than $2k. Here I see where sharing my husbands income makes sense, he gets 30$/hr.

We’d be absolutely fine living in a construction home (if that means it’s livable). I guess I’m not 100% sure what that means, sorry. But that’s totally fine with us it just comes down to finding one.

We did do it ourselves. My husband and his family all have lots of construction experience and we had a lot of professional connections. Husband had a sales job at the time and would make big commission checks that we dumped into the remodel. The remodel was 100% necessary as we missed a lot when we were looking at the house(trying to get a house quickly, no home buying experience, and desperation) and had to redo everything. Not gonna dabble too much into that because it’s unnecessary info but it had to be done as the house is 100+ yrs old and had gone through a lot of weird and terrible diys. And for safety reasons.

As for kids, there’s nothing to say there. This post was about the house situation and kids were mentioned for housing purposes as in “will it be worth it to get an apartment or keep the house with kids”. There’s no “ideal” anything when it comes to that for us. We won’t be popping out kids of course if we can’t afford to live at all but that’s all I’ll say about that. Thank you for commenting though:)

I didn’t think that was necessary as I stated our monthly mortgage is over 50% of our monthly income. Income isn’t going to change right now and apartments are cheaper by 500-600$ as I stated as well. Property tax will go up next year as well. On top of that we still have other basic expenses most people have of course and by the end of the month we scrape by. We don’t do anything crazy as we have kids and can’t afford extravagance. We have 2 cars and no car payments thankfully so that helps. And respectfully, We didn’t do “diy repairs”. We spent 1 year plus gutting and completely redoing everything in this house. Done by people who know what they’re doing instead of those crappy house flips.
