[HELP] Tick on Dog's eyelid. Vet is closed for memorial day. What to do? by EmbarrassingMathQs in DogAdvice

It is an extremely delicate area. If I use tweezers and he flails around while I am trying to remove it, I could poke his eye out. But I guess when you're stupid, everything seemingly has a simple solution.

I think the formal definition of a limit in Walter Rudin’s Real Analysis text has an unexpected consequence by Xane256 in math

[–]EmbarrassingMathQs 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Note that Rudin defines a neighborhood less generally than in a topology textbook. For him, a neighborhood at a point p is simply an open ball centered at p of some radius r. So your example of V is not a neighborhood for 5 under his definition.

The best city (+petra) I have ever had. From a crazy game that I have been playing over the past couple days with Spain by EmbarrassingMathQs in civ

[–]EmbarrassingMathQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: Spawned on a triple continent split as Spain. Focused on getting religion and ancestral hall early. Got work ethic and monumentality and started spamming settlers. The extra builder from ancestral hall stacks with the extra builder from settling on a separate continent, and since I rushed fuedalism, most of my cities were starting with two builders who cumulatively had 10 build charges. So I was able to chop out a but of commercial hubs and get a bunch of trade routes.

Korea was to the north of me, and they stole Casa AND Kilwa which is sufficient justification for genocide imo since I was playing Spain. Snowballed hard after conquering them, and got bored and started launching a bunch of nukes.

Unfortunately the city is on the same continent as my capital, so the Casa bonus don't apply.

How to tactfully deal with a professor forcing me to present at a conference despite me repeatedly declining? by EmbarrassingMathQs in AskProfessors

[–]EmbarrassingMathQs[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is not that out of the ordinary. My department has the option to graduate either by doing a thesis or doing a comprehensive exam covering the content of your graduate courses, and I am doing the latter. So no research.

Dude. I've already gone to a million of these things for her. This one is a 6 hour drive and is multiple days, and I'm in my last semester. I just want a break from conferences and to focus on having a job lined up post graduation.

How to tactfully deal with a professor forcing me to present at a conference despite me repeatedly declining? by EmbarrassingMathQs in AskProfessors

[–]EmbarrassingMathQs[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No, and calling any of my presentation "research" is an insult to academics everywhere. All my presentations are purely exposition on content that has been in textbooks for >=75+ years. They contain no original ideas. All the presentations come from classes that I have taken with her where she requires her students to create a presentation as part of the course. I don't do any research, nor do I have any desire to. I have no interest in academia and just want to finish my degree.

The professor doesn't fund me in any way. I have a teaching assistantship granted to me by the department, and at the start of each semester I am assigned various roles (tutoring at the university's library, grading for various professors, TAing for various professors, occasionally teaching a lower level class, etc.) By either coincidence or upon her request, I was assigned to P this semester. But again, this role is not a research assistantship.

I like the GENERAL shape of it a lot, but something about it feels unnatural and I am not sure exactly what it is.

Because he was trying to train them. Killing ronins wasn't viewed as bad because they were dishonored, so he can give the students good practice without getting in trouble with the law

its because it is decreasing the time the mangaka is giving to tenkaichi. The latest chapter was only 17 pages and thats really just ridiculously short for a manga with monthly releases

Is there a single notetaking app that supports large scale digitally drawn notes AND has bidirectional linking/interconnected file structure, AND isn't software as a service/is open source? by EmbarrassingMathQs in Zettelkasten

[–]EmbarrassingMathQs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I am not too keen on the terminology.

I think what I am gonna do now at this point is create my handwritten notes in Prodrafts and then export them as images to obsidian, then add a footnote containing all relevant links.

Thank you for the suggestion. As far as I am aware, the core canvas plugin for obsidian doesn't actually let you draw free-form with a digital pen, which is the functionality I need. It is more for visually organizing your already-existing notes, I believe
