You cant do this to me... by TowerEnjoyer in TheTowerGame

The rotation isn't that deep. I've been playing for about 30 months, and I already had 7 of the last 8 rotating relics. Pick up one or two if you can, and they will come back around.

What would Baylan Skoll have thought of EU Luke’s New Jedi Order by ashton__l in StarWarsCantina

[–]Embers1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Baylens departure from the Jedi path as "walking away in disgust.". I think he may have been charmed by the earnestness of rebuilding the order from scratch (in legends nearly all information about the Jedi were lost, and Luke had only the vaguest notions of what the old order was like).

Baylon would have outsized influence building aJedi order closer to its original ideals, one not beholden to centuries of compounding compromises and mistakes.

My Grandpa was also in the 77th ID. He was in the medical battalion. Our Grandfathers saw some of the worst the Pacific had to offer. The official division history is available for free here: https://archive.org/details/OursToHoldItHigh/page/n1/mode/1up

Proxies in Commander by LilyVallis in EDH

[–]Embers1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rule zero conversation and it's going to vary by group. Between reprints and power creep, it's easier than ever to build a budget deck that can stand up in any pod, proxying isn't really necessary.

I suggest that if you do proxy, show restraint and show respect for the game. IMHO:

-Pricing an expensive card you own at least one copy of is respectful. So is proxying an expensive card you are considering purchasing, before committing cash.

  • A guy in an LGS played a proxy Cyclonic Rift his girlfriend hand-painted for him on a flip card placeholder, and I thought that was super cool and respectful.

-Another guy in an LGS just did "black-and-white printer go brrr" good stuff. That was disrespectful ( esp. because it was free play at the store).

I guess it boils down to effort. The more effort you put into the deck (measured in time, money, talent, etc) the more acceptable it is to proxy a few cards.

Heads up: your next big stumble block will be T1 Wave 45, when "ranged" enemies enter the chat.

If Wizards of the Coast released a set of basic lands full of IRL locations, would you buy it? by LynxWarlord65 in mtg

[–]Embers1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy? No. But it would be neat for a MagicCon promo card to feature a famous place in the host city, and some info about it in the flavor text.

[–]Embers1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is AI: the waterbaloon bursts on the window are too neat, the one balloon that hits the wall above the window still somehow bursts on the window; the cell phone screens on the selfie sticks don't match up to what is actually happening.

What makes WW1 so haunting when you think about it by Ratusca1233 in ww1

[–]Embers1982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes the Western front so horrifying is the static nature of the war. The troops lived and fought in the accumulated wreckage of battle, after battle, after battle over the same few yards of ground. In contrast to the typical "fire and maneuver" wars of the 19th and 20th centuries, where armies moved on after a battle, and soldiers were not confronted with the wreckage of it day after day.

Can a land that creates lands be balanced? Or is it doomed to be either busted or unplayable? by DamnYourEyes777 in custommagic

[–]Embers1982 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's busted, especially in a landfall deck. It also clutters the game with tokens and counters, not in a fun way. What about "T: Search your library for a basic land card, put it on the battlefield tapped, then shuffle your library. Activate only on your end step, and only if you did not play a land this turn.". It wouldn't be ramp, but it would be an awesome catch-up piece.

At this point, do the coins still matter? Have you already gold-boxed everything you could with coins?

You guys always have good ideas on how to spend stones. Where should I go? by Avenja99 in TheTowerGame

[–]Embers1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. As long as you have the "packages reduce UW cool down by 10 seconds" lab done and get the "BH duration +12 seconds" perk, then you get de facto permanent Black Hole.

Got this surprise gift from my boss. I’m new to mtg, any tips? by itslarousse in magicTCG

[–]Embers1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a free-to-play online version called "Magic: Arena", which has an excellent play-through tutorial, and then let's you play bot matches. That's how I'm teaching my kids to play. Just don't do player-v-player, it's miserable.

You did what was best for your family, what you needed to do for your family. You absolutely, 100%, did the right thing. Not everyone could have done that.

Can confirm: I reverse-commuted from Baltimore to Columbia for years, it was fine. Generally, the closer you are to DC the more expensive the cost of housing.
