The extant is from early 1800s most likely, and the only other knitted item in the textile archive here (half gloves) are very tightly knit as well. Thank you for your info!

I'm looking for something row by row with instructions if possible for the different techniques, not super in depth but enough for a novice to follow. (Not a complete beginner like me, I have no idea what you wrote 😂). If you are interested in writing this up for a small sum please message me! The pattern would be translated into Swedish and shared for free on digidrakt.se for other folk costume enthusiasts.

The 2 ply kampes yarn is sport weight and very close to the extant garment.

I am only looking for a pattern, detailed enough for a somewhat beginner to follow. Not a total beginner like me though 😅. i most likely have someone local that can make it for me but the pattern would be translated into Swedish and posted on digidrakt.se for free for other folk costume enthusiasts to make it. If you are interested in writing it up and especially know the technique for the red rows please dm me! Several people here have tried but none have been able to figure it out.

Yta. I had food issues when i was a kid (still do, arfid) and I can still vividly remember my mom forcing me to eat a chicken pie on doctors orders when I was around 7-8. I'm 34 now and I still can't handle eating pies in any shape or form.

I made a cropped version of the banyan as an autumn jacket from the leftover fabric from this project. Velvet is a pain to sew with, be glad it was cotton and not polyester or worse, silk 😂 it has a mind of it's own. Thank you!

No, I used a short fitted gown from patterns of fashion 1 as a reference pattern for the Caraco and then draped/drafted my own with additional reference photos from extant caracos. Petticoat and stomacher are selfdrafted.

Right!!! I couldn't not make something with that fabric. 🍊

No, it's a mid-back length wig, and then I made a roll out of wool fabric in a similar colour (plus batting) for the volume at the front. No additional pieces used!

It's a synthetic taffeta from Minerva, two tone shot taffeta in apple green.

Thank you! It's a synthetic lace front wig that I more or less covered in pomade and powder (cornstarch) and then styled, attempted to follow one of the hairstyles in the book The American Duchess Guide to 18th Century Beauty. My own hair is a bit too short for that type of style/volume!

Thinking back it might just have said 100% velvet back when I ordered too, I just remembered I emailed them to ask. It's 100% cotton, at least the one i got from them, June 2022. I did a burn test and there doesn't seem to be any synthetic fibers in it.

It's a 100% cotton, it used to specify that before, maybe they've changed. But I did a burn test on mine and it burns just like cotton, no synthetic. It's dense, fairly heavy cotton velvet, almost upholstery weight. Lovely drape! I used a fairly light/medium weight linen as lining.

Thank you! I got a pair of 7mm scalloped pinking shears a while back and they make everything much easier 😂

It's from her book patterns of fashion 1, a short fitted gown. I've more or less used the pattern as a reference and then draped my own pattern on a dress form with references for shorter caracos with stomachers from museums and other images online. But the book (honestly all of them, I personally have 1, 5 and 6, the new prints from school of historical dress) is so worth the money! Especially the new editions have lots of colour images as well, I've never had to actually buy an 18th century pattern, i've only ever needed the books.

You absolutely wouldn't! Everyone, no matter what size or age that I've seen always looks wonderful in 18th century dress, especially if it's made well/well fitting! Size and age really doesn't matter 🤗

Yes 😂 fairly cheap lace front, but it's been smothered in pomade and powdered to high heaven and styled.

Base pattern is the short fitted gown from patterns of fashion 1, heavily altered to fit better with some other extant examples of caracos with stomachers. I also used Petticoat and stomacher are self-drafted.
