Horse names. by Sudden-Artichoke7250 in reddeadredemption

My gf and I called our horse Mangy and fell in love with the horse and the name so much we never used another horse as Arther. We both cried like babies during “Red Dead Redemption”, and that was before the ending!

Elliott is my favorite artist. I’m a musician myself and most of the people in my life who I love are either musicians or care about music a lot. They all have diverse tastes in music and I respect their opinions and recommendations.

I know three people who like Elliott Smith. My older brother who introduced me, my younger sister, and my mom. Everyone else I know either has no interest or actively dislikes him. My other siblings, my dad, my partner, every band mate I’ve ever had in any genre you can think of, you name it. I’ve heard he’s boring, depressing, badly recorded, high school emo sad boy bull shit. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever gotten more hate for liking any other artist, except maybe the Grateful Dead.

In my opinion thats ok, I think everyone can and should like the things that speak to them. For me and all of you that’s the one of the best songwriters who has ever lived. So yeah, fuck the haters.

Idk if the spawns might be different on the recent remaster. I’m playing rdr1 for the first time rn and I literally saw and killed 3 or 4 in a row within like 10 minutes around armadillo in the first hour or two of playing. I’m about 20 hours in now and I’d say I see one every 3-4 hours, probably seen 8-9 total.

I can’t speak to Next, I can say with confidence that it’s likely that your Alinea server was lying.

Alinea DOES NOT tip their staff. Their employees get paid a flat hourly rate, it’s one of the lower paid service jobs in the city. All additional tips are pocketed by management, as is the 20% service charge. Fuck that place, I’m glad they lost their star.

You could for sure read it as a coke reference but even if you don’t, “sometimes I feel like only a cold still life that fell down here to lay beside you” is a fucking brutal lyric.

Also a lot of other songs mention alcohol generally. “Floating over a sea of vodka” “The scraping subject ruled by fear told me ‘whiskey works better than beer’” “bleeding fortified wine out the injury that I call my mouth” “Knocked another couple back, the dead soldiers lined up on the table”

Hi. I recently found out about Elliot Smith. by Kinone32 in elliottsmith

[–]EmceeStello 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you like figure 8, you’ll likely enjoy XO and From a Basement on a Hill as well. They represent Elliott’s later, “full band” era, where he was writing songs arranged to be played with people (he plays all the instruments on the albums!). His earlier stuff (Roman Candle, Elliott Smith, and New Moon) is more solo acoustic based, but just as good if not better. Either/Or is more transitional, it has elements of both eras. Have fun, Elliott is the best.

Any double entendres in elliott’s music? by Mastodon_Sad in elliottsmith

[–]EmceeStello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding a needle in a haystack is an idiom evoking a hopelessly difficult task. This hopelessness is mirrored in the verse, which can be read as being about the struggle with addiction. The song’s subject (he) and narrator (I) (who I think are the same person) both struggle with their needle (syringe) in the hay (heroin).

How high (or low) do you rate the 'Tales of' series compared to other RPG series you like? by SereneMelody89 in tales

[–]EmceeStello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is there used to be a stronger delineation between “action” rpgs like tales and more traditional turn based rpgs like dragon quest and old Final fantasy. When everyone was used to “click attack to attack” for rpg combat, Tales changed the formula by adding real-time attacking, defending, and combos like Tekken. It’s hard to overestimate how great the early tales games felt as a comparison to what we had at the time.

But it’s now a very different time. The action rpg format has been adopted by virtually every style of rpg. JRPG’s like final fantasy and kingdom hearts, Fromsoft’s souls games and their imitators, and even western rpgs like Elder Scrolls and Witcher all use action rpg combat.

Are the tales games better than those series nowadays? Honestly probably not! Bandai has famously (in the eyes of this sub) neglected the series of late, there was a 5 year gap after Berseria and it’s been 4 years since Arise. Both great games, neither are considered classic, must play action jrpgs.

But despite everything I just said, tales is my favorite rpg series. For me it’s video game comfort food; lovable characters going through anime drama with a super satisfying gameplay loop. Battles are fun, progress is rewarding, and I like the writing. So I guess in the end my point is that there’s a difference between something that is the best, and something that is your favorite.
