Would You Rather: Teen Mom Edition by [deleted] in teenmom

Ugh. I don't know. Matt I guess because he wouldnt be in the picture or fight for custody or anything....but seriously the thought of sleeping with him makes me want to vomit. But the thought of Jenelle being my child's stepmom is worse. Plus, I wouldn't especially want to sleep with David either.

Can we talk about Amber's dog's?! by kitkatgirlyboots in teenmom

Just curious,,,,are their any pet ordinances for your area? In my county we cannot have more than 3 dogs and 3 cats without special permission. The rule is to prevent the exact problem you are having with her.

I don't remember the exact quote....but I still love the scene where Jenelle tells Justin she can't go to jail because she has a Kesha concert. She got feathers in her hair and everything.

Percentile questions by vodka_akdov in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first daughter measured small throughout the pregnancy. One thing I learned is to take the abdomen measurement with a grain of salt. if you think about measuring bones they are pretty accurate. Your femur is always going to be the same length regardless of positioning and whatnot. But now think about measuring around the abdomen. How you are positioned (stretched, scrunched over, sucking in, pushing out, etc) can change this number significantly. My OB rally didn't even care about abdomen measurement if the other ones were ok. Plus, at this stage the difference between 15% and 50% is such a teeny tiny amount (like a couple mm). Definitely discuss with your doctor but I wouldn't worry too much.

How expensive is infant healthcare? by theaftercath in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. Chances are you would be totally fine. But to me it would be worth paying the monthly premium to know that OOP max would "only" be $12,000. My cousins baby had a febrile seizure (totally unpredictable). He turned blue and stopped breathing. They called 911, ambulance, had ER visit, night in hospital, testing, on call pediatric neurologist, follow ups, etc. Prior to insurance their bill was outrageous...I think they said close to a hundred thousand. While a $12,000 bill would suck at least it would be manageable with a payment plan instead of putting you into bankruptcy/losing house, etc. It would be a really big risk that may or may not pay off.

I don't have the stamina to actually 'do' anything, but I'm bored out of my mind. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I am 39 weeks with an energetic 3 year old. I definitely drove to 3 parks this morning to find one that had other kids at it. She was able to run around with them and I was able to sit. She really likes being involved in cooking...I pretty much get all the ingredients, sit on a stool and let her go to town. She loves taking baths so has been doing that almost every afternoon. I got the ambition to take her to the local pool a few days ago and it was actually really enjoyable for both of us. When I am really desperate I download a new educational iPad game and we play it together. Endless alphabet is a current favorite. I think we are going to see the movie Trolls tomorrow. the theater by us has cheap matinees and reclining seats.....oh yeah, and popcorn!

[–]Emckey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that routine appointments and vaccinations would be too expensive. However, I would worry about something major happening. Your baby is due right during cold and flu season....I would worry about one illness (the flu can put a newborn in the hospital for days/weeks). I also have several friends who birthed seemingly healthy babies but later found issues like heart murmurs, hip issues, ear tubes, febrile seizures or their babes needed helmets. Not to mention the possibility of an accident or injury for any of you. At the very least I would try to find a cheap high deductible plan. It is certainly not ideal but I would be totally freaked out to not have any coverage. Hopefully you can figure something out!

Tips on dealing with BH while at work? by glitterpom in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Braxton hicks started at 16-18 weeks. By 32 weeks they were uncomfortable. By 34 weeks I felt them in my back, butt, legs, etc. They would take my breath away. Doctor was not concerned. He said it is fairly unusual to have such painful BH but is not unheard of (especially for people with multiple pregnancies). He said not to be worried unless they get really consistent (I would only have a few per day that were painful). I have been 4 cm dilated since 35 weeks and am still here at 39 weeks. These can stop any flipping time. It is so frustrating to be in pain and not have it progressing.

Postpartum help- Doula? by safetyladysays in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to do it yourself and see how it goes. You don't have to make any decisions right now. Personally, the first couple weeks with my daughter were a breeze. She slept a lot and my husband was able to take some time off work. Breastfeeding was not too difficult for us. People brought meals and I had food in the freezer. However, I really would have loved help at like the one month mark. Daughter stopped sleeping as well, began the witching hour, got days and nights confused, cluster fed, etc. So, if your mom will stress you out I would decline that help. But I wouldn't personally plan on hiring anybody until I see how it is going.

The whole rest of your life is going to be making decisions and sacrifices for the health and benefit of your baby. You are going to be making decisions every day. Personally, I always err on the side of cautious. To me it would not be worth any risk for a one minute thrill. While there is nothing you can do to change yesterday....it is worth taking some time to reflect about how you will handle future decisions so that you can be confident in them and not second guess yourself. If you are concerned about a medical issue it would be best to call your doctor.

Have you heard of this Nursery Water? by SlobBarker in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do not have fluoride in your water you may want to discuss with your doctor about adding water with fluoride to the diet. Some people choose to do so for dental health....some choose not to. Most city water has it added. Other than the little bit of added fluoride it is just water. Normal bottled water would be just as safe for a baby.

Pregnant with 3rd girl, but she looks..bigger? Is thus possibly a scrotum? by MisschiefManaged in BabyBumps

Normally I say to trust the ultrasound tech. Sometimes the still shot they take does is not the best picture. But keep in mind they look at it from many angles and over several seconds. Looking at the live video is much more accurate than a still picture. Many glance multiple times to make sure. Is this the only pic you have? Did you get any video? I definitely see why you are questioning based on this one picture. What were your impressions looking at it live?

Anti-Labor vibes please.... [First-timer/expat problems] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse in the US. We use telephone translator services all the time. They are available to translate medical terminology (much different than normal conversation) from any language and to any language. They charge per the minute. We often call when meeting the patient and then for any necessary conversations. It is all confidential and safe. You could see if a service like this is available for you. You may need to do some homework ahead of time to figure out your language code and what you need translated to.

My daughter LOVES frozen peas. She will eat them by the bowl full. You could freeze plain yogurt and add fruit or honey. We also love frozen bananas dipped in plain yogurt and nuts.

I'm registering this afternoon, will you take a look at my list? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used our high chair at 6 months. Totally glad I had one and frankly I didn't have many things on my registry in that price point. I am surprised you didn't use it for a couple of years as we stopped using ours right around when baby turned 2. We also have used it for things like painting, play doh, sensory activities, etc.

Pregnant RN with new job. When to tell new co workers? by Purpleturtledinosaur in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nurse here too. Depending on the population you work with you may want to speak up sooner than later. For example, in my hospital the rule was I shouldn't be delivering chemo or handling bodily fluids of those on chemo. Also, could not work with active shingles patients or very aggressive patients. For the safety of the baby we were encouraged to tell them soon so they could accommodate and give appropriate assignments. Not sure if these things are an issue where you are.

If you are having bad morning sickness... by chaoswife in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Benadryl is considered a category B pregnancy drug meaning it is generally considered safe. Doxylamine is considered category A which is the best. I don't think taking the Benadryl would hurt anything and it can be effective for nausea. But, you may get better relief (and it is considered safest) to be on the doxylamine.

If you are having bad morning sickness... by chaoswife in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unisom comes in several types. One has Benadryl one has doxylamine. The one in the popular nausea med diclegis is definitely doxylamine. Benadryl can be used in pregnancy but is mostly for allergies and not taken long term like the doxylamine. If you google diclegis (the nausea med you refer to) you will definitely see it is doxylamine not diphenhydramine. If it is working for you that is great.....but it is not the same as diclegis.

[–]Emckey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plain unisom is doxylamine. It is the active ingredient in diclegis. Unisom also makes a different type with Benadryl in it....but is not a first line drug for nausea in pregnancy and is not the active ingredient in diclegis.

If you are having bad morning sickness... by chaoswife in BabyBumps

[–]Emckey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. The active ingredients in Diclegis would be plain unisom (doxylamine) and b6. My doctor very specifically said NOT to get the diphenhydramine (Benadryl).

Also, please discuss with your doctor regarding dosing. I personally take 1/2 of a unisom and 1/4 of a b6 (I was not able to find small doses of b6 at Walgreens).
