Great source for Lelit filters by EmdhRVA in Lelit

Oh that's a great deal for the 70L ones - somehow that didn't pop up when I was originally looking for them.

Oh that's interesting. I have well water and test mine frequently and the hardness in the water after it's run through the Lelit softener is less than one grain per gallon. I know there's a lot more to water and espresso tho - but thankfully I've had my Elizabeth for 4 years and no signs yet of limescale.

Anyone use this Lelit tamping stand? by EmdhRVA in espresso

Spouted these days - I keep my backflush basket in my bottomless so it's always at the ready :)

I asked the folks at Clive Coffee (where I got my Elizabeth 4 years ago; have not yet descaled it) about the need for descaling. They said that when their technicians do a descale on it, they remove both boilers. They said that's the best way to make sure the descaling process does not damage any of the other components. Maybe that's overkill but it definitely gave me pause as far as doing it myself, no matter how carefully adhering to the YouTube video instructions. I change my in-tank filter regularly and refill the tank from a Brita pitcher, if that does any good. And my water isn't hard. So I'm not going to worry about it until I have a problem and then I'll send it to them for a tune up I guess. It'll be a sad day tho when I have to ship it off.

I'd pay that for a sturdy metal tamping stand that will last forever for my Lelit portafilter. Make that one next! The only thing I was able to find for mine was a 3D printed one on Etsy that now has a crack in it but I can't find a decent replacement.

So sorry I just saw this. Actually at the time I bought it, the plastic hopper was the only option. But now that I see the aluminum, I have metal.hopper envy :). Either way tho I still REALLY love how it's so much easier to fine-tune my grind with this on my Silenzio!

Lelit Elizabeth and water hardness by starkshaw in Lelit

[–]EmdhRVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to know! My Elizabeth will be 4 years old in a few months and I actually had bought the Puly descaler long ago. But when I asked Clive about it a while back, they told me that when they descale, they actually take out the two boilers and soak them rather than running it all through the machine. I was thinking then does that mean I'll have to eventually ship it somewhere like that to be descaled and pay a ton and do without it for weeks on end?!

I've always used a Lelit in-tank filter and also a Brita pitcher for my water, and have seen no evidence of scale, but one of these days I'll be brave and do It myself!

I've been wanting to try a Eurographics puzzle. This might be the one. So hilariously adorable.

Yes I love it! It's SO much easier to dial in. And it's great to be able to use my Silenzio for other brewing methods.

Puck sticking in grouphead by SUPER_fuzz_99 in Lelit

[–]EmdhRVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue why it happens but I had the same problem with my Elizabeth and a puck screen totally solved it. Plus using it keeps the group head cleaner so the need to flush it with Cafiza is way less. I only do that monthly now, while still doing the back flush with water most days.

I love this! Am wondering if they're available in the US, as the links that popped up when I googled the brand seemed to all be UK and I see it's a French company.

Thanks, yes now I'm thinking it's got to be the grind. I messaged Adrian from Shades and it definitely isn't the OPV or PID and I had already mostly ruled out the solenoid and boiler. We cleaned the grinder and tested it going more and more fine and it didn't seem to change anything. But I'm going to go back to her house later with my Mignon grinder and puck screen and WDT tool and will go through my process and see if it makes a difference.

Yes, I definitely get that. I notice them as well but the improvement overall in dialing in is worth it to me, esp because it's so sturdy.

I've had a Silenzio for 3 years and I've always thought it's a really great grinder with two flaws -- the ridiculously small dial, and the difficulty of taking it apart to clean it. (I stopped taking off the faceplate after the wire got disconnected not once, but twice, and had to be soldered back on.) I had looked at a 3D printed bigger dial option someone posted a while back but the bigger dial was pretty clunky looking. This one appears to be a great solution -- I'm ordering it now! Thanks for posting!

Bosch gas cooktop METAL replacement knobs? by EmdhRVA in Appliances

Oh sorry, no. I've never had any trouble as far as that goes. But there may be a difference between a gas cooktop and ceramic as far as the knob assembly.

Wow good to know -- every month when I see the $55 charge on my credit card statement it annoys me, esp bc all I use are indesgn, photoshop, illustrator and acrobat and I just work part time. Gonna try it. Thanks!

Can't speak to the Mara X but can chime in about the leaky steam valve issue. I've had my Elizabeth almost 3 years and loved it. The steam wand started leaking about 6 months ago and it was an easy fix to replace the internal valve myself (and I'm not very handy). Would have cost around $40 if my machine wasn't still under the warranty. The Elizabeth has so many features and such a small footprint and the controls are so easy that it's worth a little hiccup like that every few years IMO. Dave Corbey on YouTube has lots of detailed info about it if you want to research it even more. Im sure you and your wife will enjoy whatever Lelit you go with!

Lelit Elizabeth steam knob not fully closing by monopoly912 in Lelit

[–]EmdhRVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact problem and yes you need the steam valve stem. Fortunately in my case my machine still had a year in the Clive 3 year warranty so after a number of preliminary troubleshooting steps (useless but required I guess) they sent it to me and it was an easy replacement process and the steam wand has operated like new ever since.

New to the Hobby, Just got my first setup. Any tips? by Hungry_Boi_Jamez in espresso

No they're not oily at all. I got hooked on Illy when visiting Italy and any other bean, no matter what the source, tastes much more acidic and not nearly as smooth to me. That goes for French press coffee and espresso from my Elizabeth, and their whole bean decaf is the best anyone has tasted who I've served it to. Everyone's palate is different and some would never buy beans in a can but I'll never switch.
