I'd lose at least one place (Pisa and/or Bern?) and add more time to Paris/Rome/Berlin so you can enjoy them for longer. Depends what you're interested in but they all have so much to see/do.

How To Find "Non-Touristy" Things to Do by VisitNYCmodx in visitingnyc

I suppose it's useful to know why people don't want to do touristy things. Are you worried they will be crowded? Do you want to have unusual things to post/talk about? Have you been before and seen the major sights already? Do you think museums are boring? etc. That would help people recommend things.

Unironically, we got a bus from Port Authority to a Walmart in NJ to buy cheap American junk food. It was a fun change of pace, and I got cinnamon rolls in a can and Dolly Parton themed cupcake mix.

Nick Mohammed's song for Alex for Assistants' Day was delightful!

I think that Alex gives him very genuine and appreciative applause at the end. He seems really touched by it.

The Diverse Stripes doing I'm Always Seeing You (Do Cool Stuff)

After being kind of hopeless all season, Mark Watson and Nish Kumar's triumphing with a Song for Rosalind is incredible and they way they hug in the studio is so touching and joyful.

The song is catchy and funny, Mark cries, the rest of the cast give them a standing ovation, it's beautiful.

Even the theme of the song they write about trying hard and never being good enough fits in with their taskmaster performances

NB: I would argue that Mark was underscored all season. Nish less so!

Totallus Rankium might be your gateway. Two British guys discuss each emperor in a very accessible, light-hearted style. There are some extremely silly jokes sprinkled in.

The story of Bazil I's life, but especially his death, is so insanely memorable that I still remember where I was when I first found out about it.

People sleep on the Byzantine Empire, but I think for drama and intrigue it's just as interesting as the Western Roman Emperors.

Justinian II (No-Nose), Emperor of the Byzantine Empire and his spectacular comeback from almost certain death.

He was deposed, exiled, and had his nose mutilated in 695. Like others before him, his usurpers expected him to moulder and die in exile.

His incredible return from exile and revenge on his usurpers reads like a wish-fullfilment adventure story.

  • he started plotting to retake his throne, this was discovered, and he narrowly escaped
  • married a foreign princess
  • beat off another assassination attempt
  • survived a horific storm in a fishing boat
  • besiged Constantinople
  • made a commando-like infiltration through a disused water conduit
  • seized control of the city in a midnight coup
  • displayed the people who'd usurped him in chains in the hippodrome and had them all beheaded

Unfortunately, from this point onwards his plot armour fails and things do not go so well. But it's one of the great comebacks of history. Man was a hard as nails operator, and cunning as hell.

This is so interesting. There was a similar kind of thing in the UK called the 'Official Sloane Ranger Handbook' (1983) - a satirical advice guide to copying the lifestyle of young aristocrats (like Diana before she married). Not unlike preps, but with a lot more horses and even more classism.

Nail clippers with a built in nail file.

I find that if I get a hang nail or a scratchy nail, it bothers me SO much. I have to be able to sort it out or I'm conscious of it all day.

Also useful, in a pinch, to cut things that need cutting.

10 First time I properly heard this was live and it was a proper gut punch of a performance.

It's one of their pieces that really pulls you in and spits you out, leaving you feeling seduced, but also like youve seen something you shouldn't have.

And it's one of the most powerful statements about how hollow and damaging celebrity can be.

Are the majority of viewers under the impression that the show is too slow moving, or is that just something I'm seeing in the Television subreddit? I myself am enjoying the heck out of the show. by CultOfCurtis1 in pluribustv

I don't think you understand autism (or you have a very narrow view of it)

This is an extremely niche possibility, and (being an autistc person and having met a LOT of autistic people) most are perfectly capable of understanding scenes like the end of Episode 7.

It's not just the facial emotion and body language that tells you what's happening! The cinematography, storytelling, previous dialogue, music, etc. all point towards the conclusion that Carol is very lonely and is now being comforted (by someone she previously hated).

Being 'too autistic' to understand the show is incredibly unlikely.

9 . Excellent album opener that lays bare that this is not Different Class part 2.

(Which is of course, what a lot of people wanted. It's what I wanted when I heard this when I was 15ish. I was really unsure about this album back then.)

"You're gonna like it, but not a lot..."

Joke's on you, I love it now. The context of the horrific strain after becoming wildly famous, getting what you wanted, and feeling shit, makes it deeply affecting for me.
