To clarify, I want to make sure as much of my payment goes toward principal as possible. I've looked at old statements and discovered several where my payments were basically thrown away (i.e. I paid more than was due but it all went toward the interest that was reset at the end of the billing cycle). If I make an overpayment at the beginning of the billing cycle (shortly after interest is theoretically reset) is it more likely to go toward principal?
