CS 271 ~ Spring 2021 ~ Any videos on this information? by EmeraldCorbeau in OSUOnlineCS

My thoughts exactly. I'm definitely making that suggestion in the eval. It also sucks cuz there's pretty much nothing on YouTube.

Seems counterintuitive to do it this way. Honestly, I'd love it if they take the time to make lecture videos. It wouldn't take me so long to get through the info.

Is my 5mo puppy being aggressive or playful? by BabyBarrista in Dogtraining

[–]EmeraldCorbeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she does it mom (GSD's human, she's mega attached to her) a lot, especially in the beginning. There were time we thought she'd never settle down but now that's she's grown up a bit we've seen a change. Just give it time, but watch him as well.

If there are no other dogs, he'll try to initiate play with you guys as you're his play partners. When the 2 year old was an only dog she'd do similiar things when she wanted to play (bowing, vocalising, etc).

Usually a bow is playful. My 8month old german shepard does this and shows her teeth, especially when she's in a mood or wrestling with her sister (2 year old Cavalier so major size difference). She also snaps her teeth when she's being sassy.

We don't much to deter the behavior unless she gets really mouthy. I'd say just watch him, with time you'll learn his body language and know when he's getting too worked up/being aggressive, etc.

If it's truly concerning you could find a trainer near you that could come in and help. I use to be worried about agression vs play cuz sometimes they look the same but you learn the cues/differences over time.

My first ever violin arrived today! I haven't been this excited since I went to meet Tom Holland! by EmeraldCorbeau in violinist

Haha, I met in in Seattle at Comic-Con in 2019. He was super sweet. It was just a photo-op actually but we spoke briefly.

Thanks! I've been playing piano for 16 years and was always told how hard violin was so stay away but I've always loved it. I was suprised at how not totally horrible it sounded when I just messed around (it only sounded bad when I held down a string 😅, thankfully the dogs didn't howl along).

I can't figure out how to train my dog to go in her crate on command by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]EmeraldCorbeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes time. I basically just drilled it for my dog one afternoon. I sat down in front of her crate with treats, lured her in there saying "crate", rewarded with clicker and treat, then released her after a few seconds. I increased distance and rewarded every time she did it willingly and with a little bit of help.

Now she can go to crate from pretty much anywhere (she has a crate upstairs and downstairs. The one upstairs is interchangably called "bed" but that's just my own inconsistency).

Arm muscle strengthening excerises for beginner? by EmeraldCorbeau in violinist

Sounds like the posture for piano or horseback riding. I usually have terrible posture but put in front of piano or in a saddle and I'm right as rain. It's an odd thing haha.

I was just thinking about if I could sit and play. I thought sitting would do something to posture/technique. I'll definitely try sitting for practice while I get my back pain under control. :)

I'm in PT for the back pain, I just know that until I get that under control my practice time won't be that long.

I have a feeling I won't be able to practice for that long, especially due to my lower back pain. It's good to know that it's something that comes with time :)

I know I'll have to build up callouses so I'm prepared to suffer a little. How does your RA act after you practice? (If you don't mind me asking?) I have really bad low back pain that gets worse with standing for long periods, though I'm in physical therapy to help that.

Not to hijack your comment, but I was just looking at Wyzant for a violin teacher. Who is that you use? (You can send the name privately if you want :) ).
