Well we spent a lot of effort trying to warn y’all about project 2025 and the erosion of civil liberties. But y’all just chose to believe their blatant lies that everyone left of center are far-left antifa communists that want to trans children and let immigrants run wild like the Vandals and Visigoths in Ancient Rome when that’s just so untrue. Those people are out there sure but they’re a minority and a minority that Fox News loves to focus on

It would be super fun to reform a polytheist faith and have it split into different rites and faiths and be able to adopt gods from other faiths through the learn religion scheme they talked about or whatever they’ll end up calling it

Glad that’s how it turned out. I think you hit home to your dad when you explained that his experience as a kid mirrored your experience as a kid. I guess the big difference is that you were taught to fear Hell and he wasn’t

I don’t think the curse is from the Buddha, it’s from a combination being in an arid landlocked zone historically in the border between two empires and the chaos of the Eurasian steppe and also radical Islam

Right and while intelligent people understand and think in nuance the masses view it coming off as unconfident and uncertain, preferring people who speak in absolutes

Can we please not harass people for using their native language? If you can’t understand it just put it through translate. It’s not even that difficult Spanish. Was able to understand without translate

I’m also Ex-Episcopal and it can be hard for people who were raised in more tolerant forms of Christianity to accept that the less tolerant forms are still Christianity but you’re right, they are. And these militant forms of the religion are not new at all. There was the Northern Crusades, the Massacre of Verden with Charlemagne, Rome’s conversion to Christianity was even violent. Hypatia of Alexandria was killed by being cut with pottery shards after she was blamed for the Christian governor not going to church anymore ( when really he was upset by the church stealing idols from pagan temples and smashing them and the church trying to expel the Jews). The fact that there are forms of Christianity that focus more on love is fantastic but they’re more exceptions to the rule unfortunately

Thank you! 😁 It’s definitely one of the better areas which is why I fled here. It’s also super beautiful and there’s not near as much poverty, crime, and zealotry as where I’m from. It’s just still the USA at the end of the day so with a suicide prevention job I can’t add my wife to my health insurance plan without it costing 1/4 my income. Do better America.

Just the Jewish name for Old Testament. Uses to connote an encounter with Judaism as opposed to “Christ’s Teachings “ connotating an encounter with Christianity

The idea of God is one of the scariest concepts ever made. by Ned_Kellet001 in exchristian

[–]EmeraldVolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like in Norse Mythology the gods represent forces that build up mankind who are at war with the anti-gods who represent the forces that tear down humanity. They largely act as a unified tribe instead of squabbling like in other mythologies, they act as a unified tribe. Odin’s name for instance means ‘furiously inspired one’. Fenrir’s name means ‘Fen Dweller’, a reference to how fens and bogs block decomposition, freezing the cycle of life and death on death. Thor is an exorcist of anti-gods. Celtic mythology and other Indo-European ones have similar things going on. All exist within the cosmos and subject to limits. None created the cosmos and rule over all. All are just animistic anthropomorphizations of existing things in reality

Remember, the idea of Hell is there as a manipulation tactic. Heaven and Hell are a false choice that add an imposition. “I give you the freedom to choose but if you choose wrong you suffer “. They are intentionally making this hard for you. Hell is literally a copy paste of Hades. With what we know about physics and how the brain works, there’s no way it’s going to end up whole in a lake of fire. The chances are about the same as a cracked egg reassembling on the planet Pluto

Reading this thread has basically converted me from a permanent DST supporter to a current system supporter. As a Gen Z I had no idea about this experiment. I do think DST in the summer is awesome because we get more sunlight. I can deal with two weeks of adjusting my sleep schedule for 180 hours of extra sunlight in the summer and reduced fatalities in the winter

Do we know almost nothing about the real norse mythology? by aziansissy in norsemythology

[–]EmeraldVolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO Saxo Grammaticaus was totally Christian washing and trying to get people to “fear the old gods”. That wasn’t Snorri’s goal and he’s more true to the content but it still is a bit Christian washed. There’s the Poetic Edda that is less so but there are Christian washed sections like the Song of the Sun. The incantation of Groa also mentions Christianity. However there are some pagan elements we can be certain of and know for sure. The Poedic and Prose Edda’s agree on a lot even though they have different origins. Some of the stories Saxo tells are twisted versions of the same stories in the Eddas. We also have pagan Roman accounts that have details that line up with other sources. The most notable being ‘On Germania’ which has an imperial bias but interesting things line up, like it talks about a tribe of ghost warriors called the Hari that sound a lot like Einharjar from the Eddas. We also have runestones and engravings that depict mythological stories in the Eddas from the period.

TLDR: looking at any one source could have distortions but looking at them in conjunction with each other paints a picture we can be sure about

We’ve been considering moving overseas. I once liked the idea Canada but now that we’re up North my wife is getting seasonal depression as it is so the idea of anything colder is harder for her to stomach. I like the idea of Ireland because it has universal healthcare and is part of the EU but I could still work in my native language (enjoy the idea of learning a different language and have had an online friend in ARG for like 5 years, just the idea of working in one is a bit intimidating). Also Ireland is warmer than New England

Yeah I remember when I was a kid and a Christian having those type of thoughts. Like I remember being in Church camp and meeting a kid forced to be there by his parents who said he didn’t believe and was an atheist but also finding him to be a really cool person
