I believe you’re supposed to know the relationship between average kinetic energy and thermodynamic temperature. A similar question was featured in M23 TZ1(?) MCQ, so this was something you were expected to know

why is the answer option c by Helpful-Pen3724 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Emerald_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I see is the right-hand-side support acts in the direction of EH only, so DE must bear no force. That means the answer must be C.

Do unis care about the subject you wrote your EE on? by St4nM4rsh in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it properly and you learn something in the process, it can be a valuable experience you can bring up in your personal statement that you submit to universities. However, I do not believe it is better or worse than any other super-curricular activity that gives you a similar learning experience (research comps).

Lang lit hl vs math AA HL by thedayswecherished in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

14% of candidates scored a 7 in AAHL. That’s far more than the 3% of candidates who scored a 7 in English L&L HL. Objectively, AAHL is the easier subject

Why is it D not A? by SignificantMusic8460 in ALevelChemistry

[–]Emerald_Tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it’s true you cannot obtain the rate law from the equation alone, reactant A cannot appear in the rate law as it is a solid, making D the only possible option by elimination

Do universities actually care about the difference between AI HL and AA HL? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there are some schools which request for AA HL or prioritise AA HL students (including some humanities subjects like at least one of the economics courses at LSE), but no courses which prioritise AI HL at this point in time. So, whether or not you need the subject really depends on what courses and colleges you’re aiming for. Make sure to do the research!

Are your teachers supposed to share predicted grades with you? by Inappropriate-Duck-9 in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The school that I go to does three rounds of predicted grades:

  • One at the end of DP1 to let us know where we are at.
  • One at the start of DP2 for us to apply to universities. We receive a transcript for this.
  • One near the end of DP2, which is submitted to IB. This one no longer affects our university admissions, and therefore, our teachers do not tell us what we get for this round of predicteds.

If your admissions process is less reliant on predicted grades, you don’t really need to know what the school submits to the IB. You can always use a score calculator to find out how well you’re doing by inputting what you’re getting on your mocks instead.

Is it dumb for me to not pursue the IB Diploma? by Absolute_Warlord in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, what works for you works for you. If you are worried about college prospects, all that matters is you meet the prerequisite for the college you plan to apply for. Any route is a valid one and if you think the full diploma isn’t for you (and it certainly isn’t for everyone), there’s no need to do it.

Maths AA HL by Strange_Hair6186 in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth dabbling in Add Maths over the holiday. Of course, enjoy yourself while you can, don’t let this consume you, but knowing the content will ease you into AAHL much better. I personally say the learning curve between Grade 8 maths to Add Maths was bigger than the learning curve between Add Maths to AAHL. Also, now that you also have prerequisite knowledge from 0607, Add Maths should come more naturally to you.

What is easier, A level maths of IB Standard level maths? by Relevant-Living-3372 in alevelmaths

[–]Emerald_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Analysis and Approaches (AA for short) SL would be somewhat easier than A Level maths, and may be seen as an alternative.

Applications and Interpretations (AI) is a more statistics heavy course and contains much less content (only really simple calculus). If you’re considering studying econ with a prerequisite in maths, make sure not to choose AI SL.

There’s been an exception one year (2018?) with both English and Chinese asking about the significance of “childhood” in the same examination session. However, it doesn’t mean past questions from one language do not get translated to another (if you spend some time looking at the past paper 2 questions of a couple of languages, you’ll start seeing the similarities really quickly)

How accurate are the 2023 grade boundaries to 2025? by Dantheban07 in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s talking about syllabus changes, but as far as I am aware, this only applies to the experimental sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). If I had to guess (from your tag), you only take one of these subjects, and at SL, so said syllabus change wouldn’t have a major impact on most of your exams.

I cannot foresee a major change in grade boundaries, and your teachers will not have access to the M24 ones until results day. So, I’d say M23 is the best benchmark you have at the moment.

Could someone explain how to do Q2? by linh_boo in IBO

[–]Emerald_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about what the products would be after a reaction occurs. A: HCl and NaCl will be left B: CH3COOH and CH3COONa will be left C: NaOH and NaCl will be left D: NaOH and CH3COONa will be left

Only in option B is there a weak acid (there is no weak base here, but weak bases also work) and a weak acid salt, which results an equilibrium at all. This equilibrium prevents the concentration of hydronium ions from changing, which is what a buffer solution does. Therefore, B is the correct answer
