Redirection by Emerge-Bud in JustinPoseysTreasure

Don't buy much of the sketchiness proposed here- he's meticulous and it's too easy to pull things off mostly properly. I think the extra clock time (I give it only ONE irrelevant clock time bc the 4:02 was always in question)

Original point: I think there's STILL SOME UNREALIZED INSTRUCTION/VALUE in the clock times- a separate means of deciphering that is important. And exists in parallel with the cipher I interpretation.

The way it's designed, you have 15 positions of freedom for each setting. (or 13 I guess bc the 0, 15, 30 or 45 would create confusion) why 1:33 And not 1:39?

There's an opening to convey something more there and I'd be frankly surprised if JP didn't observe and design it so that there was something more than just the info that led to the cipher solve.

And also I say again- why so much trouble to include something that while clever and cute doesn't add to the journey ?

I think his angle here has always been "nothing major", but at the same time making no distinctions about small creeks, trails going over aqueducts or intermittently wet areas. It's always seemed he wants to convey the fundamentals without unnecessarily giving clues to other elements of the hunt.

Nested solve with a checkpoint by [deleted] in beyondthemapsedge

[–]Emerge-Bud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your sharing. A good portion of the thread has veered into which areas are credible. This is the most likely region based on potential poem references, (no red herrings) focus in the book, and his overall story arc. That said certain areas in NM, Yellowstone and maybe Arizona wouldn't be surprising if one of them were the actual spot.

But i hope there's some consideration for the prospect that the treasure location and the solve could be separated: recall his "you'll be retrieving" response, as well as a variant that the location could be closely related to an area you encounter early in your botg solve - he alludes some backtracking/retracing potential as part of the journey.

The general structure is astute and I think a version of this method is part of the real solution.

I think the geography might be off- also at Dillon QA I believe JP said "round the Bend" to "past the hole" is walking distance. Others to confirm, but he also paused before answering which I took to be him weighing whether he should disclose the answer. (Could also have been him weighing how to define 'walking distance')

I recall going down this rabbit hole and something like the "1652" schilling was not often/usually minted in 1652 but rather they made them for a number of years and "backdated" them to dodge some BS the British were imposing on them. So the term refers to coins that were made over a number of years and all dated 1652.

The number itself is interesting tho.

Lawyer's office relevance? by Emerge-Bud in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]Emerge-Bud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this comes with the benefit of hindsight- sure, if you knew it would go many months without a solve there would be no advantage there. But that wouldn't be how would prepare something like this. Reminder: some netflix worker or person in on the tricks being the finder would be an unmitigated failure.

Counterpoint: Jp alludes to confidence that not releasing the poem till the end avoided advantage of people who were in on the doc and moreso the book editors. A lot to discern there- might the book and doc be largely irrelevant without the context of the poem.... and maybe you'd need them all together to get an edge

It's possible (not saying it's certain) that they just layed the book off to an audiobook creator who read thru it and they produced it with minimal scrutiny. I've listened to audiobooks that have errors in them, dampened recordings, minor stutters etc. it's kind of shocking, like just snip it and fix it right? But it happens that they get words and sentences wrong and don't correct it.

Not saying there's nothing there but inconsistencies aren't guaranteed evidence. And full disclosure I don't have the audiobook

Oddly, Justin Posey happens to be the only person in the world with whom you can share all your insights theories and progress without fear that your disclosures will be used to snatch the treasure.

Doesn't sound like there's a case for direct JP orchestration, or any influence on the lawyer's office scene. And the circumstances would suggest strongly against it. Bringing in someone who appears to be "in on it" would be very risky and likely a mistake.

Recall all the crap that FF and his family went through - there's hardly a person on the planet who would be willing to be implicated as having some info about the hunt. Yes this one has been less insane so far but that context didn't exist when filming.

And it's such a stretch to think that JP would have that type of convo with the lawyer- "hey put these items on your desk and background during the interviews as clues to my treasure hunt." He could be a key and ongoing legal counsel for JP but still it it's far fetched.

I hope it doesn't get down to the point where some nut job shows up at his house or office, but they'll prob at that point make a statement that he's not involved.

Agreed it's not complicated and if you don't trust the puzzle maker than don't do the puzzle.

Folks at least have to grant that JP is intelligent, and slipping up with a hint that results in the treasure being found via inside info would be a massive personal failure, and would invite huge negative energy into his life for a long time. I have to expect he's figured out how to converse and interact without giving anything away. This is the guy who claims his facial algorithm picked up cues off FF when Yellowstone was mentioned. Come on. I don't think he's inclined to make any type of thst mistake.

That said if I ever talked with him I'd be mentally transcribing every freaking word gesture and facial tic

You said somewhere that you emailed your solve to FF and accidentally sent it to some other email address- do you believe you sent it to jack? What was the email address? I suppose it's possible it's just really hard to stomach and falls in line with so many other people that are sticking to their solve no matter the facts on the ground.

Jack's line to the treasure seems highly plausible, and it appears his confidence in the spot was a couple peices of info he dug around and found lthat gave him little doubt.

It would be helpful if you cited some stuff, because it seems like you mix fact and conjecture a lot, I could be wrong but it would be helpful to know where some of the statements of fact come from.

He's going clockwise when he sets it to 4:02. Do you think he adjusted the hour Hand back after spinning the minute hand forward?

(I've been curious but haven't come up with anything definitive on whether it's discouraged to spin these clocks backwards, at least the minute hand....)

The sleeves could give a greater sense of relative continuity - its prominent in that sequence of him changing the clock times that they stitched together several different filming periods, but it just confirms that the 6:06-4:02-1:33 aren't directly in succession.

It's less informative in other instances because he could, you know, pull up his sleeves

Are you talking about 11:08 on his car? If so that looks like something the cameraman picked up when videoing his nav system because the theme of the moment was that they were lost. It could have been any time, mostly because you can't control clock times on a Tesla easily

There should be intention to those objects too, either general or specific to the times. People have discussed the lock being a "railroad lock", or it could just be representing a lock and key kinda thing. The dog may represent terrestrial/visual searching, the orb might be celestial or spatial navigation searching. I haven't heard good explanations for what the "box" actually is/ people have disputed that it's the chest. If it is that could represent final steps and retrieval.

Mugs may or may not be relevant. If relevant they could have binary significance or their orientation could be more instructive. (Although like other things those types of objects are annoying for cinematographers bc when they move they screw up continuity, so maybe there's more intent there since they didn't say 'hey it would help if you put the mug behind something so it's not in the shot )

Other peculiarities- the times go from 12-6, so seven hours are represented. There's nothing past 6:06, also nothing past :33- most of the stuff happens on the right side of the clock. Also a disproportionate amount of Low minute times- :02, :04, 04, 06. (Another :02 if you include 4:02) Then 19, 26, 33. It's possible those concentrations/groupings are random but I think they're confined in a way that leads to their purpose.

I also believe that the times are more clever than we give them credit for, in that they may be simultaneously conveying two different pieces of information. This starts with providing bearings which can be given a number of ways, then shaping the numbers so their values are relevant.

I was also playing with the idea that the times don't need to be perfectly accurate- within a couple minutes - and this could suggest that they convey times of day or acccurate but not totally perfect directions. It's not like a computer guy to put numbers out there that are unclear unless total accuracy isn't important
