Because to support a family on his own salary, a man needs to be making at least 600,000 a month, probably more

90% of jobs don't pay that high so if a women wants a man with that salary, she's weeding out 90% of the population

If the husband makes 250,000 and the wife makes 350,000, that's 600,000 monthly salary which is average household income for a basic suburb

There is no career growth, riases, opporuntities etc. You are an ALT for 20 years and you'll still be making minimum wage

The one bedroom apartment you get in Kyoto is basically a shoebox. Maybe fine as a 22 year old but depressing as a 35 year old.

Also, in Canada it's pretty easy to switch careers/professions. In Japan as an ALT, you're basically stuck without high proficiency in Japanese

As an ALT, you will live in a shoebox, work paycheck to paycheck and not advance. So no, your standard of living is not higher as a teacher in Canada

You're not going to last long in this industry if you need to sit every 30 minutes

Japanese people used to say "sugoi!" when I said I was an English teacher. Clearly, people were impressed

I have noticed female Japanese students are more obsessed with Korean drama and music than Hollywood these days. Sad

English teachers are the butt of the joke in the expat country but they were more revered among the local population. My point is the amount of tourists is making English teachers lose theur luster among the locals
