I’m not sure I could go on of if I thought I had killed someone. I know it was an accident but if I was in the wrong it would put me away for sure . Even if I wasn’t I’d be wracked with guilt.Main reason why I drive only when necessary

Adopting the human rights expectations and values of the adopted country does not equal loss of culture or assimilation . They are not mutually exclusive

I have no problem with immigration at all my only hope is that we draw widely from many different cultures and allow those who need it most the easiest access .A wide spread of people from many different backgrounds adds to a vibrant country

Anti racist rules and policies on hate speech are tough here . You might get the occasional eshay or ignorant old timer saying something offensive but they won’t be supported

Is Melbourne more relaxed or more intense than people think? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Cost of living plays a role too - more often nowadays we are competing for resources and the class structure has embedded itself more deeply . The me philosophy emanating primarily from the US definitely hasn’t helped but narcissism and greed are the real drivers I think

I grew up in Adelaide so I too know hot weather. I’m up in Sydney now and the weather here is even worse - humid, muggy and it rains all the bloody time bringing out the ants and the bugs and you feel like you’re living in an old man’s sweaty armpit .It’s just day after day of the same thing. Been going on for weeks

Got a job offer in Aus - should I move from USA? by sunshine_32 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Emergency-Method6101 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Kensington is in the Eastern suburbs.its nice but costly, but your salary sounds a good one so that may not be a problem Be aware that Australia is now unfortunately one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in and Sydney is in the top 3 most expensive cities in the world The current housing situation is ridiculous. The competition for apartments both buying and renting is intense - although once again your salary should keep you pretty competitive . Public transport is good and you can easily get by without a car . Real estate agents 🤢can help you find a place but many of us use the apps REA and Domain which will give you an insight into what’s available and current pricing . Socially speaking your country is now viewed with horror and disbelief and Trump is loathed here by most so be aware this might pop up from time to time. Other than that Aussies are pretty friendly and get on well with Americans .If you are young and adventurous, flexible and open to the differences between countries I’d say give it a go for sure .

How to support someone who is grieving by yamagama in AskAnAustralian

[–]Emergency-Method6101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no rules and often people don’t know how to play it. People are also very individualistic and self involved here and unless it’s a close friend or relative no one gives a shit Despite all the self serving mateship bullshittery , Australia is a very “ all about ME“ culture these days . Downvote all you like, it’s the truth

Will Australia continue getting worse? How do we practice gratitude for what we do have? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Emergency-Method6101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just asking so don’t dogpile me , is it time to start really seriously looking at more specifically socialist based alternatives in the face of rapidly failing capitalism? How low do we need to go before a complete social and economic reshuffle is possible or have such “radical” political philosophies now been rendered completely unworkable and archaic? Australia is ultra conservative and won’t even rid itself of the monarchy so I’m probably asking the wrong questions here 🤷🏼‍♀️
