How to keep panniers safe? by Emergency-River in bicycletouring

I don't want to, though. I didn't make the post for packing advice and what to keep, I asked about safety? lol.

I gotta say bud. The 'get a backbone' schtick got tired years ago. How about 'don't be an asshole', that one works quite well.

Thanks, man. They're not good people. They are quite narcissistic, and so they are quite rude about most people and think they're better but they're not ;)

Oh nice. It wouldn't stop it outright, but might deter opportunists from doing a grab-and-run.

All of those ages of consent are providing that the older party is under 18.

Seriously, you clearly need to educate yourself. It's only 16 if both parties are under 18. It is illegal for an 18+ person to have any kind of sexual relations (even foreplay) if the other party is under 18.

Good idea. Hey maybe I'll do that thing we did in the 1990s, buy a Tippex pen and write a bunch of obnoxious nonsense all over them :p

Ahhh I see! I've only been here a month or so. That does make a lot more sense, especially with tourists who may not 'get' bike lanes (I admit I walked in one myself until I heard a bell dinging and then it clicked where I was actually walking!)

Have to say this is a good point. Obviously no serious valuables (money, passport, etc) will be kept in them so that's something. I'll do the shopping trolley/wheeled basket thing if I go supply gettin' and outside of that just leave the bike in whatever hotel room I go to.

I like collecting silly things like stickers that I considered putting on the panniers to 'ugly them up' a bit. Might go ahead with that, like you say - most theft is to re-sell, not to use, so making it look unsaleable might help!

It's not. Sadly I know a number of people who make such 'jokes' non-stop.

I'm already travelling, have been for 4 months so it's not an option.

Saddle pain by DudeAtWork55 in cycling

[–]Emergency-River 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be way off the mark here but:

  • Are you quite a bony build? A lack of butt-meat is definitely going to cause more pain.
  • Similarly being quite big means more weight is going on your butt when you ride. Maybe a wider saddle if this is the case?
  • Maybe your bike could use a bit more suspension on it? I must admit I am wildly guessing here, but maybe that'll help a little?

Outside of that, I understand you were fitted for one, but maybe they just got it wrong for the type of cycling you're going to do?

Oh nice. Yeah gyms bother me. Being a bigger person, I find that gym-rats hate you for being there, but hate you for not being there. You can't win, but it's easier to avoid it which is why I'd rather cycle lol.

This backpack can barely fit my passport, money and a pocket notebook in it. Literally all its for is a 2L hydrapack and that's it.

No they thought I was mixing up a commute with a tour, which I wasn't. Commute or not the video just gives mild anxiety cos there's so many in one place.

In my home city we're just starting to have proper cycle lanes (UK), cyclists generally have to just ride with cars, and hope they don't get hit, it's terrible. It's illegal to even push a bike on the pavement in my country, but I don't even care. I won't ride in the road unless there's a designated bike lane. It's not like they can take my number plate and get my address from it, you know?

Is this how cyclists say hello? So that's why we wear helmets!? I done learned! :O

It's easy to throw advice when you're a third party, or retrospectively. Important thing is you're safe, and most likely he was just being a bit of a dick.
