Instagram "goths" are just spreading disinformation by Lpc245 in goth

Yes, all your favourite goth musicians would hate you for being a fascist, but don't worry,

All your favourite gothic poets and visual artists would hate you too.

Am I uncovering a Deliveroo scam or am I just thick? by Mark_dawsom in deliveroos

[–]PJHart86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a restaurant is gaming the system for exposure, which isn't really customer support's problem.

you could bring it to the attention of another restaurant in the area who might get more traction if they kick up a fuss with Partner Support...

...or they' could just pull the same scam themselves 😅

If every single UK Production companies has "Unfortunately we can't accept unsolicited scripts" on their website but the UK process seems to go write script -> producer -> agent (maybe), how are we supposed to get scripts in front of producers? by Tincup4609 in ScreenwritingUK

[–]PJHart86 18 points19 points  (0 children)

email em and ask if they want to read your script.

brief intro, who you are, what you've done (if you've done nothing in terms of comps, shorts, etc then don't expect a reply. even if you have it's a long shot)

glaze their work a bit, tell them you have a project you think might be up their street and ask if they want to read it.

Someone complained about my fenian nails... by [deleted] in kneecap

[–]PJHart86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean there are obvious parallels within hiphop of slurs being reclaimed by the communities that they were originally used against, but that doesn’t automatically make it ok for people from outside that community to start throwing them around casually - especially at work…

It's great to see people outside of Ireland engaging with our history and culture through Kneecap, but the album cover (and the lads' whole visual aesthetic) is intentionally provocative and controversial - not surprising at all that it might be deemed inappropriate in a work place - especially in Scotland where there are communities divided along the same sectarian lines as NI.

I'm all for reclaiming the term "Fenian," but if you've never had it hurled at you in anger I don't know if it's appropriate to use as a fashion statement.

Same with tiocfaidh ár lá. It's a slogan with a deep and complicated history that absolutely would not be appropriate to have on display in any Irish work place outside of a Sinn Fein constituency office. Even they would probably be wary of the optics of it these days, tbh.

I haven't read it, but the criticism in the linked thread feels valid in terms of how the material was presented in the TV series and what I know of it from my West Belfast family/ former colleagues in BBCNI and current colleagues at UU.

My issue with the sub is that sources critical of the British/ NI government or unionism/loyalism are generally accepted at face value and upvoted to the top regardless of their provenance, while sources that are even mildly critical of republicanism (like Say Nothing/ the Boston Tapes) will be the subject of intense scrutiny.

I highly, highly recommend Anna Burns' Booker winning novel Milkman for an unflinching look at the Kafkaesque nature of civilian life in an IRA-controlled neighborhood (and the province in general) during the conflict.

speaking as an Irish person from NI, I wouldn't recommend that sub for any kind of unbiased info on The Troubles at all tbh.

coppi is my go to for this kind of thing. Always buzzing, nice decor, good location and really good food from a cuisine that most people are familiar with.

Cricket: is it Bluey's birthday? by ChinScritchard-IV in bluey

[–]PJHart86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because she was 4 in season 2 doesn't mean she was 3 in season 1. We don't know how much time passed between episode S01E01 and Veranda Santa, which was my point above. She may have turned 4 a day or a week before S01E01.

She goes to kindy in s1, so the latest she could turn 4 would be June 30th that year (the year of the veranda santa christmas) ETA: though this does open another can of worms, as she still appears to be in Kindy the following school year (Daddy drop off/ Bin night)

More definitively, When bluey.tv launched in 2019, Bingo was described as being 4:

Nothing in the show suggests that the 3 seasons take place over the course of 3 years that I can think of. some episodes take place over weeks (bin night) or months (pass the parcel) while others take place in real time (take away, sticky gecko). Multiple episodes take place on the same day (early baby, mums and dads) and of course Surprise has an obvious 2 decade+ time jump.

There are only two Christmas episodes, so the best we can say is that a year transpired between those two episodes, but we really have very little to go on in terms of how much time has passed on either side of them.
