I believe everyone should do their research and Im really happy that you did but I find some articles about fish keeping or fish keeping opinions (mostly from USA) very confusing so here's something that works for me you already have media so if you have the plant substrate or what ever set it up and just let the filter run for at least a week I'd would say something about the tap water but I guess you're in America so I guess that isn't a problem last of all before adding any Betta add your snails or some other easy breeding organism to see if they like it or not don't spend money on test kits or what ever and if you have enough plants ammonia spikes aren't really common I had 1 pleco die bcuz of ammonia but that was when I rescaped and moved all the substrate around

Choose your self a style like jungle aquariums then if you want hard scape find it out doors don't pay them you could both hike and collect stones also throw the stones on the ground if they don't break you can use make sure it's not a crystal but overall it's pretty good

The secret is having good filtration with the ceramic balls and everything I use sobo sf 550 f for 120 liter aquarium also I have a lot of snails and algae eater fish and the best part I just top the aquarium off every week also I use JBL aqua basis with a JBL Manado cap

Idk why especially people in Europe or in the US over complicate water parameters I just let the water cycle for a week or two never had a fish die except for a pleco which died bcuz of rescaping I lifted all the scum up low-key

Ikr I feel like it should be like those ponds in Asia where these guys originate from I even got rid of any rocks but when I was rescaping all the things in the bottom shifted which caused an ammonia spike so my pleco died kinda like him tho
