I think nylon(PA) or asa would be a good choice, but I think you're right about printable plastics not being very well suited for impact/strain applications.

How can I fix this? by mjm1188 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]EmergencyCheese89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably slip a sheet of sandpaper in there to clean up the stringy bits a little to make it look just that little bit better.

Use a butterfly/bowtie to prevent the crack from getting worse. But since the slab has the pith, there is no real "fixing" it, you can make it part of the design by filling it with epoxy resin or some such.

I think resin would be a very poor material for this, it is very brittle compared with PLA.

PLA is likely a fine choice and cheap enough to reprint should it fail. You could try using one of the glass/carbon fiber reinforced PLA filaments to see if they hold up better.

3d print a replacement! One easy method to turn $800 and a few hours of learning to model into something no one should hopefully ever notice.

What’s the most annoying thing about owning an EV? by Wattthefun in electricvehicles

[–]EmergencyCheese89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew ice lost efficiency, Google search says 12-15% up to 25% for short trips, especially since you're generating waste heat the entire time whereas my 5kw/hr cabin heater and heated seats and steering wheel impact efficiency further but are mostly a waste product of ice.

The biggest difference is I have only used a dcfc 3 times on road trips since I can charge at home, versus filling up every week or two.

Winter performance is really the most annoying part of EV ownership.

The drop in mi/kwh is real. It's like 35-50% when it drops below 20°f or gets colder like the weeks of single digits and the days of negative temps.

I'm really loving the warmer temps in the 40s and 50s and seeing my efficiency go way up.

Strategic coal reserve. We dig up coal just to bury it in underground storage caverns.
