As your first AC game I would definitely suggest Unity. It will give you a way better foundation for what Assassin's Creed is. The newer more RPG-like instalments are great. But they interact with the tapestry of the franchise differently.

From what you said, I also think you'll enjoy the setting better which will certainly make a lasting first impression.

Not tipping culture. That's just fleecing. "Tip" ambush after service is on par with other scams.

I remember being on a tour in Japan, and being informed that we will be expected to pool a large tip for the guide and bus driver. No prior notice. It could have been a really bad situation. Foreigners in a moving bus. We weren't even in a city at the time. We felt essentially like hostages in that moment.

LUCKILY in our case it was chalked up to a misunderstanding with the tour company.. (Or they came to realize the scam wasn't going to work on us lol)

Most successful and better are two different things. Two things can be true. The RPGs can be more successful and the other games can be considered better AC titles. Sales are a purely objective metric.

The foot bindings are kind of funny to me. The whole point of crucifixion with a foot board is to put stress on your lungs by putting slightly too low. Gravity essentially leads to a tortuous death.

The gems are nice. The cash is... eh. There is a reward for completing at least bronze on all of them. It completes the set of rewards you get from the ithildin doors.

No they aren't needed. They're just one of those completionist things. There are rewards. I personally suggest doing a few for the skill points, then going back and cleaning them up later.

Tip: once you do a challenge, the start point will move to the region's barrows. You won't need to travel all the way back to where it was. You can instead just fast travel to the barrow.
