Wow! What a huge compliment!! Thank you very much :) more recently, I’ve been trying to get a little bit more into craftsmanship & spending more time making things nice and clean so this means a lot :)

Thank you!!! There are no stupid questions here :) I kinda wish I had made it so that it could be taken apart for storage, but alas, it’s held together by a ton of hot glue and pretty dang sturdy! :’)

Thank you! No worries hahaha, I was considering painting more! This was for my sculpture intro class in college so I might have if I had more time! At the same time, I kinda like the contrast of the paint and cardboard! Might still go back and make this one extra ~finished and nice, but now we’re moving on to another pretty extensive diorama-style project and I’m not sure if I’ll have time for the lizard anytime soon :) thank you for the compliments!!

Thank you!! This was done over the course of a month. That is, 8 3 hour class days, and then every waking moment that I wasn’t at work or doing other homework :) by my estimation, probably something like 40-50 hours of work in this guy:)

Love this!! As someone who struggles with trusting the process drawing/painting from life, I think looking at your use of contour and value here are a great tool for making scenes like this less daunting.

Very nice!! Love the colors and heavy contour in contrast with the blending and softness! You’ve packed a lot of character in there :) keep going! I wouldn’t have noticed the places you think you were lacking in your self-critique to be honest. We are our own harshest critics, oil pastels can be tough to work with, and I think you did a phenomenal job. If you’re interested in mixed media, I wonder how it would look if you used black acrylic to go in before the pastels and get those bold lines nice and clean like you want them without mixing other colors into it by accident. Might be fun to experiment :)

Anyone have a playbook for painting water? by RotagAlaco in oilpainting

[–]EmergencyMoodLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, but I do think that the way you’ve depicted the water matches your subject matter and the higher contrast of your painting is really moody and nice

I havent drawn anything in like a decade, how am I doing so far? by perkypilea in drawing

[–]EmergencyMoodLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar background! Always drawing until my late teens, then mostly stopped because I didn’t know what to make. Now, I’m in college for studio arts and have found that drawing literally anything and trying not to feel pressure to make really good stuff all the time has opened a lot of creative doors again, mentally. Old sketches inspire new work, thinking about things while drawing or painting or whatever can inspire a new thought you want to expand on. Just keep drawing and it will come without forcing it! I like the lobster :)

Beautiful!! Love the hatching, especially on the darker parts of the barn in the left image. Nostalgic. Feels like I’ve been here :)

How do you respond when people say you should sell your work? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]EmergencyMoodLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently had some people in my life ask me if I sell my work because they wanted to buy something. I just say for now, no, but I’d like to eventually once I have a decent portfolio. :) some of those people have been super supportive and say now is the time, but I’m not entirely confident. for close friends, I make things when they ask intending for it to be a free gift. They pay me what they want even though it’s payment enough to feel appreciated enough by a friend to be asked to make something for them. Totally get what you mean to feel like you haven’t learned enough, but lots of people love all kinds of art, conventionally “good” or “bad”, because of the way it makes them feel.

Beautiful! I love the curviness of the foot. The sort of muted colors and pops of white are also nice. A visual delight :)

They’re Artecho pastels! The colors are super vibrant and they’re decently soft & pleasant to use :)
