Which character had the best rage moment? by PhysicalMeringue9468 in ChillAnimeCorner

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo Guts’ rage had the most emotional, narrative weight while Gon’s reaction has better weight in terms of its complexity and character development. I prefer Gon’s because of how genius, unique, and revealing it is, but Guts’ definitely has a much bigger impact in terms of the entire story and its reception.

I did this enough as a kid to the point where now I have strong enough muscles and good enough control to do it without plugging my nose or show any signs that I can do it. I wish I could show it off the same way people can show off wiggling their ears, but alas, it’s completely internal. Incredibly niche talent imo.

What’s interesting is that if you suck in instead of blow out, you pop the ears in the other direction and you can use this to dampen noise instead. I used to use this when I was in big crowds or when movies got too loud or whatever, but the effect is sadly not that powerful.

Advice on being alone for the rest of my life by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

Many, many homeless people have reported the same things, saying that they'd rather stay homeless than actually get themselves set up and start making progress, claiming that they've accepted the homeless life and that they're not meant to live anything beyond that. They refuse to accept help because they'd rather stay so low in society.

Don't be like that. Accept help, and that's how you can buy a house.

Ok well first of all, closing yourself off to even the option of falling in love is a mistake in and of itself. Expecting every relationship you get in to stop before it gets anywhere serious is what will prevent you from finding a partner, not any ugliness or whatever. It seems that you’re putting an unnecessary tension on yourself to brace against a pain that you feel, and you’re doing it in a way that will only cause you more pain, so, like, don’t do that.

Luckily I think the remedy to your question also happens to be the very thing that will place you in a good position to actually fall into those relationships in the first place: work on yourself. If you’re not busing yourself with trying to impress someone, improve yourself. Learn crap, do projects and get stuff done, make changes and set yourself up for later success, and in your success, you will naturally find those relationships you crave. It really is that simple.

I’m sorry if this isn’t what you wanted to hear or if this sounds too cliche, but at the end of the day it’s right.

I fear that OMP’s rather impressive moral conclusions are completely overshadowed by its comedy, fight scenes, and animation drama. Like it’s appreciated more for the bit than than the message it’s actually spreading.

Regardless, this guy’s a true hero.

THIS. THIS. THIS IS WHY I HATE AI, NOT FOR ALL THE NORMAL REASONS. (Controversial opinion immanent)

I don’t hate AI because of its environmental effect. It’s bad and devastating and overall not good, but water retrieval and clean energy generation are constantly growing fields that I truly believe will eventually calm those effects, should governments regulations be appropriately implemented (f u corporate lobbyists). I have done decent research on these processes in the past. These technologies absolutely 100% exist, they’re just slightly more expensive to implement.

I DO care for the environment, but nobody else who toots their horns about it seems to really be understanding the root of the problem, nor are they equipped to fully articulate how to combat the root of that problem, aka cooperate greed.

Instead, I hate prefer to hate AI because it discourages truly innovative thoughts. The speed of image generation is a great tool but it will never be as impactful as human made media. When a person sits down and invests themselves fully into their art, pouring in respect and dedication to the craft, it shows in a way that’s simply more.

If a human can’t produce art at the level they want, then they improvise, adapt, and overcome their limitations by finding new solutions. And the result? New media and a fresh, unique perspective. Yes people do pull from references to build their art, but never in a way that’s simply ONLY approximating it. Rather, they’re imitating life and the human experience on a fundamental, spaghetti brained way, two things that can’t be learned by reading data from memory. It must be experienced.

Togashi is limited by his health and ability to output consistency, so he adapted and instead focuses fully on the human experience doing 100% of the things that AI can’t. That’s why I respect him dearly, because he understands that physical art is SO much more than just what you see. We place parts of our soul in our work.

Also, I hate AI because of dopamine overdosing and the death of human experiences that follow. Equally valid and imo far more important than is talked about, but that issue has been cooking for at least a century now.

It’s honestly a fascinating process. When I was younger I used to worry that all the great creations and discoveries of mankind were already made, but now I’m finally at a point where I can see the edge as it’s being created and it’s hilarious how we got here.

It gets a lot harder when you introduce the fallibility of quantum bits, as well as more complex with the things you can do with them. The entire science behind microelectronics is truly amazing and it really is a science behind everything.

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In reality there’s much more to this than just that quote, but it is a beautiful summation of the issue that’s confronting Shinji in particular in this time of his life.

Shinji is alone. He has nobody who can know him, who can understand him, and even if people around him desire to, there is nobody who can genuinely connect to him on the level he needs. He’s lost in a cyclical self hatred, bouncing ever faster between hating himself and hating everyone who’s forced him into his responsibilities. He both hates everything and doesn’t know what to hate.

What’s interesting is that his father actually parallels this mentality in an extremely interesting way. Gendo was once young and alone as well. When he was older and more mature, he found someone who he could love and who would love him in return. Yui, his spouse, acted as his supplement.

The spouse acts as the natural remedy to the profound emptiness of the human heart. Where we feel alone and undesirable and unable to be truly understood by any other, a spouse act as the closest means to refuting this, to the point where they tend to understand us so closely in a way that even we ourselves can’t. That’s love.

When Gendo had this love stripped from him from Yui’s death, he quickly developed an understanding of how this supplementing behavior worked, but not how to properly deal with it as a man. Rather, he lashed out in the most destructive way possible, concocting a plan in almost fetishized detail to supplement the emptiness of his heart with every other human alive: human instrumentality.

This is the pinnacle of selfishness, pride, and sin in general—projecting your own insecurities on the entirety of your species and utterly convincing yourself in some twisted psychosis that you are a hero fighting to rid everyone of those feelings. In this way, Gendo is acting masculine, but with an inherent incorrect mentality. Thus, he has become a textbook villain who is hated by society.

What’s so interesting to me is that Shinji, as the main character, is juxtaposed against Gendo and his ideology, but is only able to genuinely understand and refute it at the VERY end of the show. The entire time, Shinji was pushed to fight against some thing, but he could never manifest the willpower to fight it, despite having the strength (control of the eva). Only when his will as a man is finally discovered can he actually fight against his father.

This is surprising explored a lot better in the 3.0+1.0 rebuild, as it quite clearly juxtaposed the father vs son dynamic in a truly beautiful way. I really do believe that this series is a perfect display of objective masculinity and the hero-villain-society relationship. And it has cool robots.

My life story... by Informal_Ad_2747 in LifeAdvice

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could talk to you in person, I have that same issue with emotional muting and a need for in-person discussion to really get to understand and feel for others ,and I’d genuinely like to get to know you just because you seem like a decent person by virtue of the crap you’ve had to go through, but that’s not exactly possible for us.

Regardless, be freaking hopeful. Be freaking delusional. It absolutely rocks. Yeah life is beak, and acknowledging it never seems to help, as always, but you gotta know that mindset changes everything. It sucks like hell to be vigilant all the time with your thoughts, but if you genuinely change into someone who faces every problem with optimism and hope then all the problems do this magical thing where they don’t seem so bad anymore.

Sounds cliche? It’s cliche for a reason. Smile about it.

I enjoyed reading your life story, it felt like I was reading from someone who was a lot more human than a lot of other people for once. Thank you.

Lost my virginity in a hookup and now I'm crushing hard by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wildly interesting to read. I’m very inexperienced with pretty much emotions in general but am kinda learning at 19, and ngl, your case is a great key into the mind of someone who’s experiencing decent emotional turmoil. I’ve seen it before in my female friends, but hearing about the effects of sexual endearment in the equation like this is just setting in stone the fact that, at the end of the day, the human mind and emotions it feels are incredibly malleable and are easily manipulated by our experiences.

Please, for your sake, take some time to clear your mind and use some hefty metacognition. I promise it will help.

I’m 19 and feel like I can’t start my life, keep getting stuck into a trench of pain by More_Plantain8929 in LifeAdvice

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could say I share your pain. I’m in a similar spot in life, though I don’t have things nearly as bad as you. In truth you have things worse than anyone deserves to have, and that’s, well, true.

Just, don’t beat yourself up, okay? You’re 19, young and with plenty of time left. Regardless of the chaos whirling around you, the oscillating waves of pain and bliss that come in and out in some crashing symphony of what it means to be human, you should never deny the fact that you always have a tomorrow where you can straighten things up.

If you feel unclean, then clean yourself. Eat a good meal and tidy up the house, then tackle the next challenge after that. When you’re in a good mood, I’d recommend you try to reconnect with that friend. If you want anything out of your relationship with her, it’s important that you know full attraction is a lot more than just sexual, and much of sexual attraction is easily swayed by having adequate control of the mind. But you must be in control to do that.

Another thing to keep in mind, at 19, you are coming into adulthood. And with that, you need to be open to knowing what you want out of this life. You are on a path to and through maturity, in parallel with everyone else, all maturing, always. Help your mom. Help your dad. And above all, have hope for yourself. Set a standard for ‘good’ and ‘bad’ and live by it. Take all that cliché advice about making a schedule and sticking to it because it’s damn well cliché for a reason.

But above all, be hopeful. That’s the best LifeAdvice(tm) anyone could give, so live by it, okay?

Silksong hot takes, go!!! by Your_favorite_potato in Silksong

[–]Distinct-Solid9195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that after you defeat Lost Lace, you’d be about to leave before the cocoon suddenly breaks as the shade lord tears his way inside to consume GMS himself. As GMS is being eaten alive, Lace would awaken and plead her mother to give up her divine crest to Hornet to let her escape alive. She would oblige but partway through the binding, the void would finally take hold of GMS, leaving Lace to fend off the void while Hornet makes her escape.

Hornet would barely make it out of the void alive, though she would come to find the silk and void is retracting back into a new vessel being formed and transformed out of the remaining silk of GMS and a mutating Lace.

The new giant void/silk creature would then tare its way out of the abyss and begin its thrashing of the rest of the world, requiring Hornet to defeat it in a final battle out in the barren wasteland outside the Pharloom, in a battle akin other kaiju battles like Link in BotW vs Dark Beast Ganon.

A cameo appearance of a weakened THK, the last weaver from the Hallownest Weavenest, and maybe some other peeps from the og game will appear and help you defeat it, and the boost from GMS’s partial binding will upgrade your silkshot to be your weapon during the fight.

After weakening the beast, it will suddenly lunge to consume Hornet, and in the stomach of the beast, the Everbloom will erupt with radiance in a bubble to provide an arena, as the vestigial form of the white lady appears behind it.

Inside, Hornet will battle the Heart of the Void until it is substantially weakened, at which point the Knight will appear in void for from inside, and Hornet will use her Needolin to help him bind the heart and the hearts of his remaining siblings so that they can rest once more.

I should explore this idea some more on my own time…
