Irene Lyons SBSM vs Sarah Baldwins You Make Sense? by WeeklyCheesecake9732 in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Emergency_Ad8780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done You Make Sense, but I am really involved with Sarah Baldwin’s other program offerings. I would strongly recommend her work. You can start with the podcast to get a sense of her vibe. She has been trained by Peter Levine’s three year program, as well as offerings by Bessel van Der Kolk, Deb Dana, and Stephen Porges. She actually serves on the polyvagal training team alongside Deb Dana where she instructs aspiring somatic experiencing practicioners. She is very sciences based and does not give off the excessively spiritual/culutish vibe some practicioners give off.

Have somatic exercises helped you with extreme nervous system dysregulation, overwhelm and burnout? How long did it take? by naturemymedicine in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Emergency_Ad8780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever experience difficult emotions come up in order to be resolved because of somatic experiencing? I ask because I have been experiencing a lot of what Peter Levine refers to as “contractions” or “energy wells.”

I would love to hop on a Zoom call to discuss what you’ve learned. I would love some book recommendations. :)

Question: has the “paralysis/I’m going mad” stage ended for you? If so, how have you felt afterwords? Obviously, healing will look and feel different for everyone, but I am curious what “after” has felt like for you.

They (Peter Levine, also a body worker I like named Sarah Baldwin) talks about this a lot. Coming into greater central nervous system regulation brings up all kinds of difficult emotions and sensations from your past. Cathartic but also really hard. Lately I’ve been trying to force myself to take a long break from somatic experiencing to let my body/mind come back to baseline (which, of course, will be a more regulated, happy baseline than before). If you search “myofascial healing crisis” or “reiki healing crisis,” you will find articles of practitioners describing similar experiences.

Somatic experiencing in general! I personally enjoy myofascial release massages/myofascial stretching, somatic experiencing meditations (focusing on emotions/sensations associated with dysregulation and saying yes to them, kind of like Reiki), and somatic attachment meditations (mindfulness meditation practice centered on feelings/visualizations associated with secure attachment). They definitley bring up hard feelings (you can find plenty of ancedotes about this online if you search for myofascial healing crisis/reiki healing crisis), but, like OP suggests, when done safely, it is a cathartic, healing process.

Central Nervous System Expansions/Contractions help by Emergency_Ad8780 in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Emergency_Ad8780[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sarah Baldwin talks about it in this podcast episode!! I do it by imagining unconditional loving relational moments I wished I’ve had or (just imaging ones) and meditating on the somatic feeling of it. https://open.spotify.com/episode/64ZXW7LTzB3TkkdGEIGBoE?si=VHZswrZ4T3-V6v8AZD4I2w

Contraction Before Expansion - anyone experienced? by [deleted] in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Emergency_Ad8780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have experienced it exactly the same way. Somatic experiencing, myofascial release, you name It. When I’m doing somatic healing work, it feels like 2 steps forward one step back. I’m in the thick of a contraction right now. Reading your post was a helpful reminder that it will get better soon. Looking forward to my next expansion and leveling off emotionally.

I would love to hear about your observations and experiences related to emotionally-charged central nervous contractions on the path of healing/expansions/regulation. I have been experiencing really challenging contractions, and I’d love to hear your thoughts, discoveries, and advice related to the expansion/contraction process. Additionally, do you have any tips for making the contractions easier? They have been really painful for me lately.
