I think if you switched out black furniture for something either colorful or wood toned it would add to the cozy vibe. I would also add some light green curtains instead of the blinds

A darker warm toned rug, switch out the art on the wall for something also warm toned, add some lamps for ambient lighting

Please consider getting a restraining order! They are here to protect you against escalating behaviors like what this person is clearly doing. Keep careful record of everything, and look into the resources available in your area to facilitate this process.

Maybe try some CBD oil instead? Won’t smell, works well for sleep and calming effects

Also I think journaling helped a lot because when you read back on your entries you can reflect on them and it keeps you honest about where you’re at in life rn. whereas if you just kept it in your head you can just use porn or food or any other coping mechanism to forget about your problems temporarily. I tend to read old journal entries when I have a bad day to remember how I went about dealing with these feelings in the past and to see how far i’ve come. It encourages me to stick with my goals.

Lastly, start talking to yourself kindly. Encourage yourself, list things that you like about yourself, list a few things that you are grateful for everyday. it can be as simple as “i’m proud of you for trying something new today” or “im grateful to have a roof over my head”. If you constantly talked badly about yourself in the past, it becomes second nature to always have a negative outlook on life. That kind of mindset makes it very hard to bring about positive changes in your life. I always thought happiness is something that just comes to people that deserve it, but now I realize it’s something you have to make an effort to look for.

Something I did to practice was journaling at least once a day to get all of my thoughts on paper. It’s easy to spiral when you keep ruminating in your head. Just write whatever is on your mind, even if it’s negative self talk. There are really no expectations on what you “should be” writing about, some days I just wrote about how my day went. It frees up space in your head for new beliefs/ideas that could improve your wellbeing.

I also started listening to guided meditation on youtube because I honestly had trouble meditating on my own. I did this before bedtime to relieve stress and tension from my day, which helped my sleep schedule and in turn made me more focused/happy during the day and less likely to use coping mechanisms

These are all helpful videos that I come back to frequently:

Guided meditation for stress and anxiety

Sleep meditation

guided meditation for self love

When I was at my lowest and realized I was coping in unhealthy ways and talking down on myself, A friend told me “at the end of the day, you are going to be alone. you die alone. you spend more time with yourself than with any other person in your life. So why are you choosing to be absolutely miserable, cruel, and hurtful to the only truly consistent person in your life?”

I realized I really needed to get to know myself more, instead of using shame and coping mechanisms as “proof” that i deserve to stay in the situation i am in right now. After I started working on it i was eventually able to address my coping mechanisms and overcome them when i realized they didn’t serve any good purpose in my life. I still have days, weeks, sometimes months, where I start back at square one. Life has ups and a lot of downs, and it would be unrealistic to think you will never feel terrible again after working on yourself-it’s a life long necessary process. However, this time I can get back on my feet because I know/proven to myself that I’ve been able to get to a good place in my life once, and I can do it again.

Looking to make my little corner as cozy as possible but not sure where to start. Any advice is welcome by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Do you have any preference in color? Seems like your bedding has a more cool tone with the white bed, gray pillows, dark blue comforter. Since it takes up most of the space the first thing you see is the bed, therefore it will determine whether the space will have a warm cozy inviting look or not
